    Hello,

thanks for your interest and the LIKES.

Today I show you the completion of the main mast.
The fontfish, the cheeks and the mast hoops were attached.

Lastly, an annular holder for belaying pins still has to be made.
Each mast receives one of these holders. Per holder requires 10 pieces of belaying pins, thus a total of 30 pieces.
This holder is built according to a drawing from the Atlas du Genie maritme, Plate 234, as seen on the following excerpt.

    @JOUFF
    Hello Patrik,
this tool was turned from a brass rod on a lathe.
The retaining pins are made of old drills, for example 0,5 mm, since they have corresponding strength.
The holes for the retaining pins have to be performed very accurately, otherwise the dead eyes wobbles.

    Thank you Johann!

Without wanting to abuse, could you also provide me with some details about making these small holding tools , particularly on the way to realize and implant the small pins with precision :

Thank you in advance and really, congratulations for your wonderful work I have been watching from the beginning.

    Hello Patrick,
sorry, I did not quite understand.
The tool I have brought into shape with Proxxon Corundum Cutting Discs,
as shown in the figure below.
I hope I could help you.

I saw your link Johann, my question was about making these tools :

How do you realize it, with what type of tooling because I think that this steel must be hard?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Johann,

    I come back a little ...

You have shown pictures explaining your methods to achieve dead-eyes. I see that you realize it of 2.3 millimeters in diameter ! Could you elaborate on the method, in particular for the realization of the necessary tools?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Siggi,

thank you for your interesting information and the pictures.
Before the construction of La Creole I was not aware that already in the
18th and 19th century ships were equipped with lightning conductors.

    @All
Tanks for the nice comments and LIKES.

    Hello Johann,

I'm just back from London and also the NMM. There I found something you may be interested in

I don't know how the lightning should enter the conductor

Your work is as always extraordinary

    Hello,
Thanks to all for the interest and the nice comments.

To finish the lower masts I have to make the iron bands.
This I made from strips of brass sheet 0.3 mm. To attach the frontfishes there are two-piece hoops.
