You're doing an awesome job! I started my first build recently, though had to set it aside because one of my parts snapped. Occre sent me a new one but I haven't started back up again. Reading this thread is inspiring me

I'll be watching this thread with great interest! I'm starting my Polaris around Christmas this year, which like you will be my first attempt at a wooden model. Following with great interest - I have two large ships in my paper model kit pile, so reading through your build is sure to give a lot of helpful insights! I have a much smaller kit in the pile as well that I plan to use as a "primer" for building hulls as I know they can be a challenge. I have a few projects to finish up before that one starts

I just read this entire topic from post 1 - outstanding work Chris. I have two HMV models in my stack, and I'm sure I'll create build threads for them if/when I start working on them. Reading through this has given me a lot of ideas around how to achieve the detail I'd like. Eagerly looking forward to future updates! -Daz

I didn't expect responses so quickly! Looks like I've found the right place I am moving in a few weeks, and won't start my Polaris until after that, so I have plenty of time to read and learn

Hello! I'm Andrew, in the US. I've loved building models since I was a kid, and dabbled in woodworking and carpentry, but I never knew wooden ship kits were a thing until recently. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I've done a lot of reading, and decided on OcCre's Polaris as a starter model to see if this is something I'd like to pursue, though knowing my other hobbies and tendencies, I tend to think I'll love it. Reading through some of the build logs is super inspiring, and I'm looking forward to starting my own. Some other hobbies I enjoy are papercraft, jigsaw puzzles, origami, and playing the piano.

Awesome to see this thread - I ordered this kit yesterday and it will be my first build, so reading through this will be so helpful!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
