Airbrush
Lucius Molchany replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
I use a Paasche VL double action airbrush.Durable, easy to clean and parts are easy to find most craft stores like Pat Catans and Michaels have basic parts so if you need parts on a Sunday when the hobby shops are closed it is not a problem.Very efficient way to paint a ships hull.I use a Paasche D-500 compressor and although it is very loud it is rock solid reliable with over 25 years of service with no matinence required. -
Good thing they found someone as skilled as yourself to restore it.Careless display should never occur again that is for sure!

Outstanding work!I wonder how that magnificent model was ever allowed to be damaged in the first place?

Well with 27 views and no responses I guess I have my answer! -
I was browsing the bay and saw sevral listings for Woody Joe kits and wondered about them.Seem pricey as the more interesting ships go for over 4 bills for the most part.Worth all that money?

I think the Artesania Latina Swift would be a great choice.Plank on bulkhead and two masts but relstiveky simple rigging.

The wife went to a bridal show so I had some extra build time.Planked up the hull but ran out of the basswood I bought on Friday (15 planks were not enough)So I had to use some left over mahogany. It is ok because I intend to either paint the bottom white or copper it.I have to fill some of the large cracks with wood strips and use filler on the rest.

Looks good I notice you built in the camber of the deck. This one should be special.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
