  1. Hi, Working on a Shipyard 1/72 Santa Maria, the one with the laser cut parts and paint. It's pretty much idiot-proof, so it's ideal for me. I was going to do a diorama of the wreck based on a painted in National Geographic from the 80s. I think the artist was Richard Schlecht, who illustrated all of the Time-Live volumes on ships. Love the card ships! Huge variety. Lyle
  2. Lovely work--it's great to see a Billings Boats kit underway. I had the Santa Maria kit but barely started the display base before selling it. Those instructions were interesting in translation, to say the least. I preferred the Galleon to the Santa Maria but just couldn't come up with the money back in 1989. I think in Willem zu Pferde's book it's called the Sant' Yago. And your model of the Roter Lowe is fantastic, too! Lyle
  3. I met Cole as well, in 1986 at the RC model Jamboree held in September. First class guy for sure. I rode Amtrak from Tampa to the Rhinecliff rail station and then took a cab (no Uber then) to my motel, then walked 6 miles the next morning to the Aerodrome!
  4. Hi Chris, Love the Fokker E.V and your project. They certainly make a nice model in paper. The nice thing about lozenge camouflage is that it's not on the wing! Have you seen the one in Rhinebeck NY? Flies with a 160 Gnome. Probably more in keeping with what Fokker had in mind for that aeroplane, rather than the UR.II. Cheers
  5. Thank you everyone for the welcome! I anticipate a new level of quality in my modelbuilding experience with the knowledge available here. Best, Lyle
  6. Hello everyone! I am glad to be a member here! I am sixty years old, I am a musician and I live in West Central Florida. My interests in modeling have been between ships, railroads and WWI aircraft. I've also dabbled in R/C modeling, but I got tired of it never being a relaxing pastime. So, I've decided to get back into ship modeling. It all started with a Pyro Roman Merchantman and Santa Maria in 1967. Since then I've built quite a few models, mostly plastic but some wood and even paper. My best models were the 1/350 Titanic and 1/350 Yamato, built more than 40 years ago. Also the Soleil Royal from Heller. My latest model is the 1/72 Santa Maria from Shipyard, laser cut paper. Still slogging along on this one. I'd like to build a model of the Mary Rose someday, maybe a huge model in 1/20. Right now that's the stuff of fantasies. Seeing that model of De Zeven Provincien in the Batavia museum in Holland certainly whets the appetite for such a thing. But where do you find the room? The resources here are fantastic. I'm grateful to find out about this site from a colleague on a social media site. He himself contributes a lot here, so I'm grateful to be a part of this as well. Best wishes to everyone-- Lyle
