  1. depends on the time period difference between the 2 pictures but the starboard dash line might be hidden by the crew standing at attention.
  2. yes on the white line along the deck edge. go with deck grey as i think dark grey would appear almost black in color.
  3. do a notch on the top of the vertical post not on the side & no notch on the horizontal bar so not to weaken it even with the angled supports added to it. if you have access to a small round file to be used after you roughly carve the notch with a knife.
  4. good idea as i see the orange peel effect on the small right panel & on the flight deck itself.
  5. i have used oven cleaner a few times with pretty good success. what are you using to repaint the panels with, brush, rattle can or airbrush?
  6. it is not as i have dealt with him, helped him in the design of the Nevada class turrets & he is a moderator on another model warship site that i am also on plus others. http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/index.php
  7. go thru this link https://www.navsource.org/archives/10/11/11idx.htm to see if can see any good color shots of the flight deck.
  8. watch this video to put your mind at ease. HMCS Bonaventure - The Pride of Canada’s Fleet
  9. you need to cleanup the top of the starboard elevator hanger opening if you haven't already. the crane base has an overhang on it as you can see a shadow caused by the overhang in the photograph. can you post that photograph again horizontally instead of vertical without the red arrows?
  10. Vertical Surfaces Sea Blue 5-S paint applied without pattern to all vertical surfaces including mast and funnel tops. Horizontal Surfaces Deck Blue 20-B paint. On submarines and aircraft carriers, wooden decks were stained to a color corresponding to Deck Blue 20-B. Canvas Covers Stained to a color corresponding to Deck Blue 20-B. http://www.cv6.org/ship/camo-radar.htm
  11. the lower bow needs to be more curved as per attachment.
  12. do the hanger deck in gray with the side walls & i think the ceiling in aluminum. the top 6 to 12' of the elevator wells are in black but confirm that in the links i posted. why did you leave the radars on the directors when not on til later in the war but definitely not at the Midway battle?
  13. try this. "Same deck color (#20 Deck Gray), but pre-war aviation spaces (including cruisers and AV's at least) were painted in an aluminum color and it wasn't until 1942/1943-ish that this changed on the older carriers (we don't have the full details on this yet, but we have textual records that at least confirm the aluminum paint)." https://members.boardhost.com/Warship/msg/1727704824.html http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=12986&p=957444#p957444
  14. i think they were doing that to surface warships like cruisers, battleships & destroyers in interior corridors but not so much for aircraft carriers
  15. try this. 16. what colors are you going to paint the hanger deck, bulkheads & elevator wells?
  17. the aft fire director is pointed the wrong way as should be pointed aft just like the forward director is correctly pointed forward. look at Sheet 3 - Outboard Profile Starboard of the plans i had linked earlier on the orientation of those directors. during the battle of midway, the ship did not have radars mounted on those directors til later in the year. "Mk 33 Director Description:A power-driven fire control director, capable of obtaining firing solutions for targets moving at up to 320 knots, or 400 knots in a dive. Designed and initially installed without fire-control radar. Installations:1941 - Mid 1942:Two Mk 33 directors mounted fore and aft of the island. No fire-control radar. Late 1942 - 1943: Two Mk 33 directors with Mk 4 fire-control radar. The Mk 4 could detect large aircraft at up to 40,000 yards with an accuracy of 40 yards. It was less effective against low-flying aircraft and only capable of detecting large surface ships at 30,000 yards." http://www.cv6.org/ship/camo-radar.htm#radar
  18. i have Revell's 1/480 scale USS Hornet that comes with the B-25s in the stash waiting to be built. i actually have all 3 Yorktown carriers plus 2 more to be kitbashed into the Ranger & Wasp. already have the General Booklet of Plans for those 2 ships & the Yorktown.
