    do the hanger deck in gray with the side walls & i think the ceiling in aluminum. the top 6 to 12' of the elevator wells are in black but confirm that in the links i posted. why did you leave the radars on the directors when not on til later in the war but definitely not at the Midway battle?

    i think they were doing that to surface warships like cruisers, battleships & destroyers in interior corridors but not so much for aircraft carriers

    the aft fire director is pointed the wrong way as should be pointed aft just like the forward director is correctly pointed forward. look at Sheet 3 - Outboard Profile Starboard of the plans i had linked earlier on the orientation of those directors. during the battle of midway, the ship did not have radars mounted on those directors til later in the year. "Mk 33 Director Description:A power-driven fire control director, capable of obtaining firing solutions for targets moving at up to 320 knots, or 400 knots in a dive. Designed and initially installed without fire-control radar. Installations:1941 - Mid 1942:Two Mk 33 directors mounted fore and aft of the island. No fire-control radar. Late 1942 - 1943: Two Mk 33 directors with Mk 4 fire-control radar. The Mk 4 could detect large aircraft at up to 40,000 yards with an accuracy of 40 yards. It was less effective against low-flying aircraft and only capable of detecting large surface ships at 30,000 yards." http://www.cv6.org/ship/camo-radar.htm#radar

    i have Revell's 1/480 scale USS Hornet that comes with the B-25s in the stash waiting to be built. i actually have all 3 Yorktown carriers plus 2 more to be kitbashed into the Ranger & Wasp. already have the General Booklet of Plans for those 2 ships & the Yorktown.

    what about the Hornet with the Mitchell bombers?

    the Norman A. Ough's drawings shows the center funnel being round, correct? i think it should be oval like the aft funnel. you could cut a disk out of paper or whatever & place it where the center funnel is to see what the diameter dimensions do to the surrounding area. the coal scuttle is round as the cover is on the deck in front of the 2 guys standing & beside the guy in the coal scuttle. i would go "no deck" as per the photograph.

    so the 2 motors drive 2 props so why not 4 props like the real ship had? am i correct that the model is 56" long? i wouldn't worry about the seams on the funnel sides as would be out of scale but could use layered paint to simulate the seams. how much of a rebuild are you going to do as i see you are missing 2x4" guns in the forward superstructure & the hull appears to missing the bilge keels.

    it is called the "island" as the "tower" that i presume you have not got to yet goes ontop forward of the ship's funnel.

    according to the C & R drawings used by the US Navy that i have saved on my computer, either your outboard shafts are to far back or the center shaft is to far forward tho i think it is the outboard shafts.

    Aussie, the ship did not get the quad 40mm aa guns til Oct 1942 which is post Midway. as you are supposedly doing the Battle of Midway time period then you need 4 quad 1.1" aa guns, 32 20mm aa guns & no 40mm aa guns. look at the link. http://www.cv6.org/ship/armament.htm

    when you re-install the props & shafts, paint the shafts the same color as the lower hull & the props, a bronze color.

    PvG Aussie, you have the ship's props in the wrong locations as 1 side spins clockwise & the otherside spins counter-clockwise, not the way you have it right now. also i would leave the props off til the end due to possible handling accidents while building the model. does the plating of the hull in this link https://www.navsource.org/archives/02/0206apa.jpg look like yours? model's bow at the waterline is not slim enough & hull plating overscaled compared to this link https://www.navsource.org/archives/02/020842a.jpg of the USS Hornet, sistership of the Enterprise.

    in that link i posted for the drawings of the Guam, on the right hand side you'll see "DOWNLOAD OPTIONS" & in that "DOWNLOAD OPTIONS" you'll see "SHOW ALL", when you click on "SHOW ALL", you'll see 15 files, forget the "cover photo" unless you want to download it but see if can download individually the other "jpg's". post results.

    your picture is in May wereas the video i linked was during the Midway battle so plenty of time to paint the red meatball white. i think you can see white painted centers but not certain because of the video quality.
