The kit provided stripes for the deck are not in full length. I must use small stripes.

You are absolutely right she is a monster. But it's a fantastic kit.

    Good afternoon.
Everything is prepared for the first planking. I‘ve glued the two parts of the false deck to the hull.

Here are the filler blocks at the bow and the stern:

And here are the first planks using 2x2 mm stripes:

Those stripes are only for the lower keel section.

Although there were no problems at all the model is quite bulky because of it‘s length.

What an elegant looking form! The sheer of the false decks really brings out the beauty of the design! Do you anticipate that the length will pose specific challenges for the planking? Will you be planking the strakes in single long lengths or in shorter strips?

Wow, she's a monster. Things are going to start getting interesting, Yippe.
I love the scale of this build, it makes me want one.
Also I was thinking, displaying her with the retractable keel fully out would really make for a much taller display also, which could be an issue.

    Good morning, Jason.
The idea to simulate the bowsprit's end is very smart. Thanks for showing.

Glued bowsprit in and completed the gammoning..

Used the supplied .75mm line, however I'd estimate its closer to the 0.6mm as estimated per B.E.s recommendation.  I like the way it turned out.  Found an online reference to show how the gammoning would have been done in practice and just followed that. http://modelshipmaster.com/about/tech23--bowspritgammoning.htm

Bowsprit pinned for extra security, to ensure it was fully square at the cap a little adjustment was needed at the deck, either the dowel is slightly warped, or the hole in the hull is not in right place.

The forebits are supposed to clamp the bowsprit, but the precut hole I found to be a little large which resulted in a large gap.  To tidy this up a bit more, I used a slice of dowel to simulate the end of the bowsprit...

...and installed. It's a cheap 'trompe l'oeil', but it works.  You can also see the ringbolts installed for the two cannons, I'm guessing they should be there but as can be seen, there is very limited room here to manage a gun.  Still need to figure out how the fore ladders can be installed in a way that feels right.

Some shots of the whole ship...
The mast at the edge of the bowsprit ( I don't know its proper name (spritsail topmast ?)) is still missing...

If you were to R/C this boat you could have a 3rd channel for the drop keel. It would help you when pointing upwind.

... and this is the official start of my build log.

Oh my God! In 1/35 scale Endeavour‘s parts are only big! Anyway, let‘s have a look at the first pictures. At this time all the parts are dry-fitted.

I agree with you all about the retractable keel. I would not show it on the finished model, although it would be cool to have some kind of mechanism (spring or others) that allows you to pull it out, with automatic retraction inside the hull. This could be a nice feature on a static model.

The lines of the hull are so pure that the lower keel would break the incredible beauty of the J class.

As for the height of the mast, unless you place the model on the floor, you will need a ladder to work on the top of it. I cannot wait to see more progress and pictures.

I think the drop keel looks strange in the present context but might look more appropriate when the hull is fully planked - a matter of taste I suppose. Anyway, it will be nice to see one of these beautiful hulls in a nice large format, drop keel or not!

Personal thing I guess but for what it's worth I agree it does look a little strange.
This is the little one that's on my list. It's available as resin hull or plank on frame. Which one I buy depends on how easy you make the hull planking look!

    Hello folks,

I had not much time to build, but now and then I have a little put me in the yard. A few small parts are created and the railing was completed. As always, everything was made of pear wood. Alone 120 pillars of 5 mm long and 3 mm wide for the railing.
More again soon, I promise :-)

Thank you very much Floyd, Tim, Q A‘s Revenge, Hamilton and Jeff.

This can get you in trouble, Floyd. Don‘t mess with the Admiral.

I‘m not sure about an exposed drop keel. I think, it looks strange. But the drop keel is free to move.

Well, the length is a minor problem. The real problem is the height of the mast. For all I know, Amati‘s Endeavour is available in three different sizes: 1:80, 1:50 and 1:35.
