Hi all. Another small update. I decided to keep planking the remaining of this deck leaving unplanked only the edges where the bulwarks will be built.
No finish has been applied to the wood yet. You see plain raw untreated wood.
Also some trimming still to do.
Thanks for visiting.

Hello all. another little update - fore & main yards mounted & rigged except for the braces - they will be last. Tried to get pictures with a dark background so the light rigging shows up better. The running rigging is a little too light colored but I am not going to re-do it.

I now started to build the "Fish-Davit" that was used to help raise the flukes of the anchors. According to Landstrom's book, Vasa's fish davit was recovered. It was 230 inches long by 9.45 inches high by 10.6 inches wide. Also, according to Landstrom, each end of the davit was the same so it could be used on either side of the ship. So my thinking is that I will show my model with the davit on the starboard side and attach the anchor as if it is being raised with the help of the davit and I will show the anchor on the port side in the final stowed position.
The finished davit scaled down 1:75 made of walnut
Cutout of angled rectangle hole on both starboard and port side
Positioning of davit on starboard side
Opposite end wrapped and tied thru holes in deck
Thanks for the "likes" on my previous post!

Super job! Brings back memories of when I did mine. I also have the RW waiting for me.

I thought it was about time I blew the dust off this log
Work has been 'hopping' about a little on the hull.I have been concentrating on sorting the exposed areas of framing.Because of the line of the main deck, various knees, beams and a black ebony waterway would appear in this window between the frames.Although this would be historically correct,I decided it would add a 'ramshackle' appearance to the build and looked for an answer.I decided that an intermediate layer of thin Pear planking from the deck clamp upwards would alleviate the untidy appearance. The basis of this layer has been added on the portside but will be completed when the deck clamp has been installed. On the starboard side are temporary ABS plastic strips tack glued with CA.These guide the fitting of the pear cappings between the open frames. These ensure a nice flow along the top and bottom of the cutout to match the edges of the upper wales. When overlong caps have been fitted and the aliphatic glue has dried, these strips are removed and the cappings sanded flush inside and out.The Aliphatic wood glue does not stick to the plastic.
The three rectangular holes in the hull are to receive the deck beams. There are many more to cut,I have just done these as they were so close to the cappings and also provide a reference point as these three beams delineate the hatchway opening and capstan.
Kind Regards
Nigel

Small update. July 25 - 14
I finished planking the first portion of the second stern false deck. The remaining will be planked once the bulwarks are built and the tip of the bulkheads removed.
No finishing applied yet.
Next step is to place the beams that will support the last false deck above this one, as well as fitting of the fore castle deck.
Cheers

Hello all.I managed to finish the bowsprit rigging - resembles a spider web. Would be much easier if I had 3 hands.

Well,as usual I made a couple of errors on the rigging already.I had the mizzen topmast stay all wrong & re-did it. Also forgot to add the bowsprit mast stay. The crowfeet rigging is a real pain but I got it done - more to do later on the running rigging.I had some nice rigging hooks left over from another build so I used them on the mast tackles (the ropes & pulleys between the lower deadeyes).

Another update - been slowly working on the shrouds & stays.Topmast shrouds & mizzen stays done.I know the rigging is a bit dark but I prefer the look of the dark standing rigging. The running rigging will be much lighter.
