Hi Mates,
I have come to realize that each of you will most likely build three more ships before I finish this one. (:-)
But, here, surprisingly, are the completed cannons. Each of which incorporates fifty-five parts inclusive of the ropes, blocks and the single nail for anchoring the carriage to the deck (drilled a hole at the bottom of one of the four wheels for each carriage). I'm really irritated with my lack of knowledge regarding the axle pin poor locations. Darn, Nigel had the perfect solution, but it was too late...
You will note that my first attempt at devising a carriage anchoring method was, in retrospect, silly. Those long nails would not allow the barrels to slip through the deck openings. This did not even occur to me (such a novice) as I was attaching them. I tried shortening the nails, but then I could not locate the tiny pre drilled hole in the deck; uncharted territory for me.
So plan "C" should work, a small nail through one of the rear wheels in each carriage. Hmmm. The also really uncharted waters for me will be rigging all of these. (:-). I will use JanV's idea from his build.
I promise that I won't post any more canon updates until I have them rigged and mounted! Might be a long while (:-). I so appreciate all of your really super nice comments, so encouraging, thanks for also just looking in.
PS: ropes and blocks are from Chuck's at Syren (:-)

Michael

Working on planking the main deck. I am really pleased with the color of the bleached walnut wood. Using Peter's research, it appears that at this scale, the length of a real ship's deck planks should be no more than 102mm. The kit calls for 180mm. I chose to go with 100mm. Rather than plank with one continuous strip and simulate joints with a marker, I chose to do it the actual way with the 3 plank shift. The first line at the center was done with all 100mm strips and the next started with a 75mm strip, the next with 50mm and the next with 25mm, then back to a 100mm and so on. One long edge and both ends of each strip were darkened with a black marking pen to simulate the black caulking that was used in between planks to seal the deck. I also tried to mix up the grains of the planks to give it more a realistic look since real decks were planked with lumber that did not match the flow of the grain.
All this may seem to the extreme, but I said I would try to take this build to a more extreme level of reality than my last.

Here a short update on the assembly Arrangement..
I am thinking of doing some structuring to the raw swivel gunposts
would have to tacle guns and anchor cables, all that goes underneath the Quarterdeck before putting it on permanently, am always a bit anxious that something could be forgotten to Mount as Long as there is Access there
would now Need to get the forecastle assembly Status to the same Level..

Made some more progress on the model!
Started work on some of the deck fittings. I cut out the slots for the sheaves and made the bottoms for the stanchions.
Now I inserted the sheaves, pinned the bottoms (to help keep them in place on the deck), gold leafed and fit the head figurines to the stanchions, and made the belay pin racks.
Some photos of the finished assembly's on the deck

Hello Karl - nice solution.I also had to "make" a little room between mast sections on my masts.I thought I saw a picture somewhere showing the shrouds going around both mast sections but i know that would be wrong.

Hi Mates,
Still working on those carriages.
Here is a minor update. First pic. is of the upper and leading edge carriage metal frames after I chemically darkened the brass pieces. As I mentioned earlier each four piece set is specific a particular one of the 14 carriage.
I then glued all of the pieces. Subsequently realized that the black chemical process did not allow the glue to adhere to the carriages. I had not washed off each small piece for fear of having them go down the drain, so glued them directly. Instructions do say "wash off" Hmmmm
I then needed to scape off the glue sides to re-adhere the small parts. It would have been probably easier to paint them. Though I feared that over time the paint would peel off.
Next was painting the cannon barrels. I initially chose a water-based paint made specifically for airbrushing. BIG mistake. Paint would not adhere after drying. I knew of this potential but was rushing myself.
So after scrubbing off the first attempt at painting, I then used an enamel paint that needed to be thinned and was a bit messy at cleanup, but looks excellent.
Next was scraping the emblems to bring out their details.
Next steps will be to attach the cannons and add the upper restraining hinges, then on to the ropes/blocks. Again, thanks so much for visiting it is so appreciated.
Regards,
Michael

Hola amigos!
After a week out of town I resume my building. First of all, thanks to Matti because he confirms that the instructions Manual is wrong (again) in respect of the topmasts because the thickness of them does not correspond to the scale of the real ship. Curiously in the plans appear correct and is easy to see that the plans do not correspond to the kit.
Unfortunately I already made the lower topmasts of the foremast and the main mast according the Manual but I will follow Matti in putting only 2 instead of the 3 rings that come in the kit to the other topmasts. It will be necessary to make and adjust the size of all the pieces that hold the rings but I don´t think will be a problem.
Knowing the above I proceed to make sure if the other topmasts fits properly to the masts. And the first thing to notice was that there were not enough space to enter the shrouds and it was necessary to lime the pieces as shown in the next pictures:
Saludos, Karl

Here is where I'm at with the masts:
First I scratched the front parts for the bowsprit.
Then I started with the first märs and it's is almost finished. As I will add skanskläder later on the sides of it will not be visiable. Therefore I focused on the top and bottom sides.
I don't have the skills to scratch the whole thing and decided to use the main round part is from the kit.First thing I did was to weather and add planks to its top and bottom to make it look more realistic.
I only used two of the kits rings to get it closer to the original proportionwise, otherwise it would far to tall.
As I have some spareparts from earlier I could double the number of parts that hold the rings. I had to remake the taller ones. Also added short scratched details.
All parts where painted with washes before and after assembly and also some drybrushing.
All in all this is made up from 66 parts and I will add a couple of details more and skanskläder and even if it's beyond the kit verion, it's still simplified compaired to the original, so indeed they are quite complicated constructions.

Small update of the work on the masts: I finally found reference of the mizzen masthead so I redid it, the BB is incorrect in the plans (if I'm not missreading it totally).
Also did the the other parts on the mast heads and now I'm planning for the bowsprit details. The BB original parts are not to bad, but it's easy to make better ones and make them close to the one on the real ship.
As you can see I got the ropes and I toned it down slightlly. I learned from the Fred Hocker that they found no evidence of heavy tarring on her ropes, but of a light tarring.

Another small update.....
New additions include the vertical strips of wood on the hull mid-ship. I'm not sure of the name or function of these timbers, but I'm wondering if they could be for protection of the hull when the lowering of the ship's boats?
Also added are more ornamentation pieces, such as the eagles and the piece at the top of the gallery door.
Now to make these same pieces for the port side.

Today I finished them all and will next start planking. Here are some photos how it does look like.
Controlling the line with slightly adjusting the nails appeared to be an efficient technique.

Rigging is well and truly on the way to being complete now. I have altered the rigging on the Prince, compared to the plans.
You can see the fore mast sails have been curved with the addition of some blocks and line. The main mast sails are left flat. The plans indicate to leave them with a flat profile. I haven't actually completed rigging up the main mast sails as yet, but just wanted to show the difference between a curved profile, and the flat one.
I also went ahead and built up my display base. I altered the original one with my own design.
The kit comes with these 2 pedestal blocks to mount the completed model onto. I felt that given the sheer size and weight of the model these 2 blocks wouldn't be a good enough support to display her. So I crafted my own.
Using the frames that the plywood bulkheads came in, I simply cut out the outer shell of 2 of the frames. One about mid way from stern and one about mid way from the bow.
Once they were cut out, shaped to size, glued onto the base I then covered up the horrible plywood with left over Mahogany strips that were spare from the hull. I added some red felt to protect the hull of the ship. The base itself was made out of MDF board with a veneer on the top. I added some strips to the edges, along with a length of Ramin and Walnut to give it a nicer finish. Finished it off with 2 coats of Satin varnish.
I also have a name plate on the way. It came from Cornwall Models, through the Amati parts section. although you can't actually buy the kit anymore, parts are still available from some suppliers.
Thanks for watching

Ok so as promised here are the ratlines. I'm am so happy with results of changing my masts to Walnut. Looks much more realistic.
And I found a solution to the angle of the upper sections of ratlines at the foremast, and main mast. Seen as my birds nests were circular I could only fix these two masts. Mizzen, and bowspirit masts had to remain as they were, due to the nests being too small.
I simply drilled new holes as far to the outer edge of the nest as I could to create more of an angle on the shroud rigging.
Sorry about the darkness of the photos. It was late in the evening and my lighting wasn't that great for photography. Perhaps I should do a study course on photography to create better photos. I have seen some great shots on another post of a Victory scaled 1:600. It was so cute! Fits in the palm of your hand! The builder superimposed his model on an ocean backdrop. Looked great!
Photoshop or something similar will be able to create that right?
Anyway I'm getting off topic.
Cheers for watching

Belfry Making
I've lost track of my updates since some photos of mine are missing... =.= So, I'll just upload part by part. Up till now, I've basically done the forecastle fittings including the catheads.
Anyway, this is how I make my belfry. I used the beech woods for the bits that came with the kit and 2mm x 5mm walnut strip for the rail. To produce the bits, I mill them with a reverse milling bit to create the head, and then cut them into half.
I really don't like the color of the beech wood, but since I'm gonna paint them any wood will do.
For the crown on the belfry, I cut the original one into 5mm width.
The rail..
For the headstock, I used the 6mm x 5mm walnut strip which is the same as the cat head, and sand it manually to the shape.
Well.. it was taller, because I forgot to add the width of the rail in.. So, I trimmed them down another 4mm.
And I added a copper piece on the head stock.
Install the bell and Done.
This is an older photo actually.. compared to my previous post, you can actually see I had added a one more strip at the concave area.
