Try with medical pean and little pieces of sandpaper. Slow, but under magnifier, precize and it works well From one of my older posts I needed little rasp (2 mm) to correct traces of glue, to thin hinges, and to round corners of hinges. It was impossible on table before glueing ( less than 1x2 mm). I am blind for that, and hardly find that little pieces on desk, so I take my hidden toy, make some jig-rasp with sandpaper 280, and it works well I hope this helps N

It is hard to get equal 78 longitudinal holes without standing drilling tool, or very calm and precize hand. One tip, if you do not mind: when you make them ans when you are satisfied, do not takw macro photos, you will se that them are not equal and not on right position, and you will not be satisfied. Watch whole thing from some distance if you dont want to get in perpetum mobile of remaking

No progress today ... some bad news about one my client/friend let me down, spiced with complex new Labor Law which I had to study and learn very fast (one of main fields of my work). But life must go on, and now at 22:00 I can finally think about future scroll saw works ... one eye to phenomenal Billy Crystal one man show on TV ... He is really something !- 4,151 replies

Denis, I think you are always here somewhere peek over my shoulder and looking into my head. As always, it seems you again read my mind. This evening, doing boring, not so much creative job ( plates plates plates), hanging my head with one and all and listening some radio drama, I suddenly became aware that I must do stern ornaments BEFORE final rotation of Her Majesty. Later this could be almost impossible. So, another thing to bang my head - how, to hell, to do this, to meet my expectations and my vision how this must look. I have some ideas ( tinny rope, tinny wire ...) particularly seeing Doris log with masterpieces done with modeler Clay. Many tests has to be made, also many experiments, many logs on MSW to visit and study, considering very tricky curved surface on stern. And I want this to look as much as possible as on real ship ..... Hmmmmm Today progress (until Princess call me to eat pancakes she made)- 4,151 replies

Keith, I had same problem. It seems that old TEHNODIDAKTA plans and your plans have identical source for copying and stealing ideas. I did not like this, and considering some other mistakes I made, I decided for drastic move of everything on deck which allowed me to do it on almost correct way. That was stage when first planking layer of hull was set, main aft and rear deck also on place , and whole model was pretty well fixed, so I could play removing deck bulwarks without consequences for stability of model But I am sure you do not like how will look patching of "holes" in deck planking after removing this parts. So, if you decide to remove them, you must count with re-planking whole deck. Maybe this situation is good, if you plan to put waterways along deck, freing ports and metal stanchions with rings BTW, nice work is rising here nenad

Material looks very fine It seems that bulwarks are to much separated, which can cause some problems during planking. Do you intend to apply second layer of planking ? If yes, do not worry to much. If no, planking is very delicate stage for final look of model Possible options and solutions for those spaces - filling spaces with something and then get right shape by sanding/cutting - add extra bulwarks BTW - before planking check out all lines of future decks, longitudinal axis of whole model, equal width of every imaginary cross section through the model, to be where them have to be

"Dremel like" tool helps a lot in work, particulary if you have elastic pipe attachment with smaller jaw head on end (sorry for my english). I got Einhel complet for birthday in april 2013, and I am still delighted what can be done with this

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
