  1. @ Lawrence,

    I'm not an expert !

I'll doing my best and every time it goes better but I'm still far away from be an expert

You are doing a great job on your Victory !

The tips I past along the way is what I have learn from other builders.

The tip about lining up the chains is coming from Garward.

Dan Vad send me a few pictures how to serving the deadeyes and the lanyards.

That's something I'm gonna use now at the San Ildefonso.

So every time you are learning something new and you gonna use that to improve your model.

That's the greatest thing on this forum.

People share there skills and tips !

I'm also lucky that Mobbsie is watching over my shoulder and I have a critic-us in the house.

When she don't like something, she is saying it and I have to change that.

    @ Dragzz,

    Thank you very much !

  2. Hi Andy,

I missed the beginning of this "build"

Just like almost everyone, I've never see it so I will follow you closely on this.

    One question.....

Maybe a stupid one but you know who is asking it.

It looks on the first picture that you post that the steering house is at the front of the ship ????

Or are that the crew quarters.....

Then i see a stack in the back.

So the engine is at the back ?

  3. @ Mick,

I shall try to explain it to you.....(o dear, what have i done.......)

The shroud is the rope that comes from the top or top gallant ( All the way up on the mast ) that goes to the deadeyes. ( easy one)

With my other builds I'm using just the "naked" ropes.

When you are serving the ropes it means that you turn a thinner rope around the thick rope.

    Then it gets more "body"

It looks like that part of the rope is stronger because of the force of the wind on it when the sails are open.

To make that served rope I'm using a serving machine.

You only take the length of rope that you need ( a little bit more )

When you take a look at Gil Middleton his build log of the Victory, he explain how it works much better then I do.

If you have any questions or you want pictures of the part of the machine, just ask !

But not sooner then monday I can take pictures because I have to work tomorrow  :(

Andy has also a great example of the serving machine on his build log of the Pegasus.

Mobbsie has make me that machine as example from his (thank you for that Andy)

If someone wants to correct me, please do !!!!!!!!!

    @ Thanks John,

The serving machine works just fine !

    I can recommended !!!!!!!

    @ Andy,

    Thank you so much.

Your answer was the answer what I was looking for !

So it where not knees but hounds.

Then I have served the first rope at the right measurement  :D  :D

Also your last line of text.

Leading shroud to prevent chaffing from the sails.......

Difficult when English is not your native language .....

  4. Thanks Robbyn and Sam,

    @ Robbyn,

I know that the shrouds were only served around the mast.

But my question was , how long do they have to be served down.

I want to do it till the futtock stave.

    Then your next thing.

The outer shrouds has to be served till the deadeye because of the sails who are touching it.

To prevent damage to the shrouds when the sails touch the shrouds.

This is not something I know but I read that at another forum.

    @ Sam,

The table that you see is only for the tools, not the workbench where my model is.

I have another table for that.

And you mean the cross table for the standard of the drilling machine ?

Or do you mean the milling machine.

    I like them both !

If you want, I can take a closer picture for you.

  5. Thanks again  :D  :D  :D

    Kevin,

Yes, from January I have again two builds.

But the main build will be the San Ildefonso.

I think it works for me the best having two together.

Normally when I have one build and when I get started, I will glue the frames and will not wait till the glue is dry.....

Then you touch a few frames and the they are out of line.

I will do now one frame at the time and then wait till the other day to do the next one.

In the mean time I can work at the San Ildefonso.

I hope that answers your question ?

  6. Mobbsie made a serving machine for me.

I can use that now because I'm at the part to make the shrouds for the San Ildefonso.

    I have one question.....

The shrouds that going from the tops to the deadeyes.....till where has the shrouds to be served ?

I know the shrouds will be served till the futtock stave.

Is that at the end of the mast knee where the futtock stave has to be placed?

I mean the knee where the tops hit the knee to give the top support.

And a picture of the serving machine that Mobbsie made for me.
