Not much of an update, but have not been totally slacking!

The deck beams have all been installed, as well as the covering board.  With additional helpers here, we have done some preliminary work on the building slip (the 2 young ones, 8 & 10, think it is fun to be able to spread glue and sprinkle cleaned beach sand for the base).

Next step is to start planking the hull (and adding details to the building slip).

Thank you, Frank, but I think I'll take cold and snow over hot and parched.

John - thank you for that warning!  I need to check that before I put the last couple of beams in to be sure I haven't created more challenges!

Than you, Mobbsie - will keep you posted on progress!  One interview thus far, but didn't get the position.  Will keep looking, though!

    Gaff & Booms
Time to add the Spanker boom and the Gaff boom, again the supplied rigging drawings are sketchy and difficult to follow,so I decided to rig the booms as per L Petersons R P S M which is my rigging bible I highly recommend this book which can be  purchased for around £25.The booms are now both rigged and the last of the braces which rig into the booms have also been added. One thing that will to be attended to is re-tensioning some of the rigging, but I will do this when the rigging is completed, the only rigging remaining are the tac sheets, and then just the dummy rope coils and a few odds and ends.
Next job ships boats or the stand.

Diana as she is now starting to look the real deal

Frank!!!!!!!!!!  It's great to see an update.  Looking really sweet.

As for the doors.. look again at the cabin.  Half of that cabin is below the deck.  There's a handle and sliding panel on the roof where the rails are.  It would be pushed forward and then the doors opened.  A short ladder would lead down to the cabin deck.  Hope that helps.

Up Date time again....... I think I left off showing the water pumps installed, well I uninstalled them. I think that's going to be one of the last items I will install along with the railing posts with the rope. I'm pretty sure they'll be a nusance when the rigging starts if installed now,
Most of the work done up to this time has been on the rest of the deck pc's. I've installed the rear railings, which I had to improvise on,
cleats ,oar locks, channels, and the gun rigging.  The following pictures will show whats been done. Thanks again for looking in!!

    Frank

we'll start with the floats.I shaped them out of some basswood so they were pretty easy to form , these will also be attached later .

These are Chucks cleats. He made some 12mm for me. They came out real nice , If anyone needs some wood cleats try his out, you wont be dissapointed.

This picture shows the start of the rear rails. There was some bending involved  on these and unfortu nately one of them snaped on the end so I could'nt use them The brass was2mm , you'd think they would give you a little longer pc. of brass knowing they might snap with the twisting they need, but no way. The only brass rod I had was 1.5  mm , but it worked out ok. OH yeah!, not only did the brass rod snap, the pc's that the ends set into also got messed up so,  I made a basic pc. to set the ends into.As it turned out I liked the way it looks better than the way itwas supposed to.

I just want to show this picture , because it shows the rear doors on the cabin. I was thinking a bout some figures for this build and I'm thinking this cabin looks small for this scale. A man at about 5'7"
woiuld be approx. 2.6 inches at  1/25th scale. This cabin is just1 inch tall !!! How could this person get thru the Door???? any comments??

The following pictures are of the oar lock and channells installed and the rigging of the cannon, also the fore mast eye bolts installed.

Well, not much progress to report, but have brought the Harriet Lane back to the table and gotten some detail rigging underway.  Thus far, have finished most of the braces and the main sheet.  Next up some clean up, then the catheads are calling for attention.

Thanks for the dimensions. I don't use a scale ruler but a conversion table to quickly get from feet/inch to mm

Work continued on the bowsprit step. To accurately determine the step (square hole) in the chock (the vertical plank between the bitts) I had to make the bowsprit itself too. I find it very satisfying to make a mast just with hand tools, it takes time but the result is very accurate.

While cutting the step the rabbet between the two planks very nicely

The bowsprit was cut from square to octagonal to round using a hand plane, well honed chisels and sandpaper.

The base going from round to square

    And the tip

The step is also rebated into the upright bitts

Next up is the bowsprit step. As I needed two of the forecastle deck beams to determine the size of this part. Not looking forward to this job I made an (warning off topic) 1/35 BMW R75 with side car, a nice little plastic kit from Lionroar. After that I found new energy to return to the KF and I went ahead and cut all forecastle and quarterdeck deck beams so they are ready for future use. Some parts still need to be made but I can not find the with of the crosspiece. Any ideas? I guess it's shorter than the main topsail sheet bitt crosspiece...

Nick, with diluted tung oil (applied sparingly ) it has no sheen and thats what I meant with dead flat. I have the mixture in a small jar and it will keep for at least 2 years, that is how long I kept is. Glue won't stick to well if the wood has been treated with tungoil or any other oil or wax based finish. So you'd better think ahead before applying it.

The fore mast step, this is a nice little 3D jig saw puzzle. I realised I had to reposition the two deck beams that incorporate the mast step to properly align with the mast. No big deal but I felt pretty dumb when I noticed my mistake. Most straight forward cuts were made on the table saw that acted as router. The rest was cut with a chisel.

ohhhhh wait.....what about those chrome parts I've been soaking?  well.....I checked them,  and they look ready.   so, I brought them all to the kitchen counter and set up the plastic bags again.   pulling them out one by one and scrubbing them with the stiff brush,  they cleaned off well enough to be thrown in the tub of soapy water.  when I was done,  everything was triple bagged and thrown in the trash.   the parts are tiny......I used a strainer to rinse them off after washing.

when they were dried off.....this is what they look like now.   I used a dime for reference.

the A deck when I turned it over.........

some assembly was done to the fore deck......four of the capstans and two of the hold covers.   I'm kinda miffed about the hold covers.   clear parts are nothing but pure styrene......the hardness hasn't been compromised by the addition of color pigment or additives.  even though I took care to get them off the sprue,  marks can still be seen.

...and of course,  the A deck with all the clamps off of it

    there are some small part to go on there yet........then I can get going on the boat deck.   I will continue with the fore deck, and begin work on the stern.   the fore deck has two lengths of chain {plastic} that needs to go on there........I want to sub in a couple pieces of actual chain.   I have been looking for a good picture of the chain routing.........if anyone has one,  I'd be pleased to see it.......can't find one out there,  anywhere!   {so far....anyway}

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for looking in and the very kind comments.

Boy, talk about jumping in with both feet, the Agamemnon is an advanced build and not really recommended for first timers but if you take your time and think twice before each step you should be fine, there are some really good builders out there who are building the Aggy who will be happy to help if you get stuck.

The Hammock Netting is made from Tulle, it's a net used for decorating wedding venues and I suppose anything that needs that material. It can be obtained from most Haberdasher's.

The hardest part I found was getting the right pattern, most come with a hexagon pattern but for Hammocks you want either square or diamond.

I gave up looking in the UK and a good friend of mine got some diamond pattern for me and sent it from Australia.

If will help I can send you a P.M. with the method I used for the nettings although you wont need them for a good while yet.

Good luck mate and don't be afraid to ask. If I can help I will.

    Hi Guys,

Here's my latest update for what it's worth.

I have filled the dip and just have to finish the sanding down, should be ok when it's done.

I thought I would plank the stern transom whilst waiting for the filler to harden, it calls for 1 x 3mm walnut, so searching for the right wood ( took ages ) I find that I dont have any, been left out the kit, a quick call to Jotika and they are sending it to me, should'nt be long in getting here.

I thought I'll line the gunports, somewhere in the old forum I saw a tube that was made up and the linings cut from that so I thought I would give that a try, I made a jig so that I could just cut the tube, set for 9mm this would give about 1mm to sand down, made my box tube, let the glue dry and tried cutting a piece, what a mess, the tube just kept shattering, and the inside dimensions are wrong, it was giving me a measurement of 10 x 8 when it should be 10 x 10mm, so for me there is no shortcut, I'm going to have to cut the linings individually and do it the long way.

I know where I've gone wrong with the tube, I put it together wrong by just butting the sides but I cant do anything about the splitting of the timber, it's just very dry and quite rough.

So all in all I've not made much progress but I have learned a lessen.

    Anyway a few useless pics.

Making adjustments to the size of the gunports and my way of holding the wood in place

The filler just needs to be sanded down

Quite a lot of filler has been used on both sides

Here is my jig for cutting the many lengths of gunport linings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jig and tube

The tube fits tight into the jig

    Cutting the tube

The end result, too small, all it's cost me is a bit of time, but lessen learned.

So there we are, pretty boring really but it's still fun and it's good to try new ideas even if they dont work out, isnt it ?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks Carl, Grant, Greg and mobbsie as well as the "Likes".

Well, once again real life is getting in the way of my model building.  I used to build multiplex cinemas before I retired and I have had a consulting gig looming for a while.  It has been encroaching on my shipyard time to some extent but lately it has taken on a life of it's own.  I have not done any work on the Bomb Vessel since my last update.  I have been in the shipyard but my workbench has been converted into a desk.  It is covered with paper instead of sawdust, very sad.

I have been prepping for a 6 to 8 week job site stay to finish off a small cinema in a small town in Oklahoma.  I was the consultant for the original design several years ago and it makes sense that I should come back for the finish (shorter learning curve).  I start next Sunday and I hope to get home on future Sundays but I am not counting on it.

The good news is that it will help extend the retirement money and I have been thrilled to realize that I still remember how to do this.  The job site exercise will be good for me too.

I will still check in to MSW from the hotel room, watching with envy as Grant and mobbsie continue to get even further ahead.  Grant is right about the benefit of have their roadmap to follow when I do get to work on mine again.

    Talk to you soon.
