  1. For some reason I've only just caught up with your latest build, Eric. I agree that the humble work boats - large or small - have a special charm that their more glamorous sisters can never emulate. John
  2. Hello Roger, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  3. That dinghy looks good, Craig. I'm afraid your model will never be truly complete until you add a model of Archie to join the other two crew members. John
  4. Richard, was the gin for your daughters or for you? John
  5. Nice to have the right neighbours during a construction like this, Craig! John
  6. Can't wait to see her on the water with sails set, Craig. John
  7. Welcome home, Richard. John
  8. That's a very contented looking cat you had on board with you, Craig! John
  9. I hate to disagree with you Andy, but some early steel ships had bar keels. Here's another illustration from Pursey's book showing the construction of a bar keel at top left. I should add that Pursey was probably outdated even when it was first published in 1949. Such archaic tomes had no doubt been long withdrawn by the time you were studying for your tickets. John
  10. Most of them didn't have the locking pin. Nils. They simply relied on the weight of the compressor bar to do the job. John
  11. Coming along very nicely. That transom looks very specky! John
  12. Hello Geoff, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  13. Not sure whether this will be any help, but an illustration from Pursey's 'Merchant Ship Construction (1969 edition). John
  14. A beautiful model of an obviously much loved boat, Craig. Thaks for sharing your build with us. John
  15. Coming along nicely, Nils. I'm surprised she had screw stoppers on her cables instead of simple compression stoppers like the ones below. John
  16. Hello Miguel, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  17. Hello Greif, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  18. I make mine by laying a sheet of paper over the model and running a pencil around to draw the exact shape of the hull as a template, then cutting the right shape is straightforward. John
