Whew! - port side patterns on. While trying to clamp those patterns I kept thinking it might have been easier to just use planks & cut the ports out as on most other kits, but I got it done. The next thing to do is the first planking from the patterns down to the keel. Having said that,I mentioned in an earlier post that the patterns are 1mm thick. The first planking is 1.5mm thick,so I will need to either add some .5mm strips to the patterns or sand .5mm off the planking. Since there is some unevenness to the patterns & sanding them smooth would leave some areas paper thin, I think it will be better to add some thin strips to the patterns & sand them back to the level of the planks. That`s the plan anyway.

The mirror, as well as on both sides window bay window
with its carvings I have already finished,
with the oriels still missing carvings / figures attached later.
I have decided not or color this model, or only black/brown
wood stain for the moldings and golg color for the numeros crowns.
The model will look a bit different from really beautiful and colorful
models of Maarten or Doris, etc.
First off all, I will start with the interior design of the model.

the construction of the main dekk cabin is on its way , for this i use evegreen styro yust the main dekk cabin,
wood vil be used for the topp dekk construction.
at the rear you can se the 2 sleeping quaters and a sallon and the doors opening .
later i wil glue some wood panels etc on the wall, beds ,table etc....
at the aft i wil do the same.
the hole construction is loos and not glued on the ship.
i markt the windows , doors etc so i need to take this out to.
the main dekk construction wil get simulated rivvits using the same metod i did with the hull (thats because this part was made of steel plates.
the topp dekk was wood.

its no returns regarding painting the hull... its dunn😉 but not finish,
there are 2 cote of primer then i used 2 cote of nato black matt, as an under cote for the finish cote.
its going to be a little blacker and more glossy then it is now, am saving that for later,
i also pre drilled the hole for the portholes , it wil be larger then it is now (6mm when install)

using the day cabin to trial my attempt at making the grad rails in this section they pretty are straight forward, several of the other rails have different end pieces which I have to figure out how to make, all in all I think its a good start, time and practice will tell.

Lots of stuff arriving this morning! Just had another 30 Speedy kits worth of resin cannon, this time in black resin (Alert black cannon arriving Wednesday)
Also included is a resin casting for the domed canopy sample for the third kit. There was no way I was going to assume the customer would want to make this part out of wood. It was likely copper anyway.

I just had another batch of laser cut parts for Speedy arrive, this time the premium version with basswood laser cut sheets, and they look very nice.
Also, I had a sample set of the Alert complete laser cut parts for a top end version of Alert. I made minor changes to some parts, and the deck is now moved to 0.8mm plywood, and the wooden parts are now in pearwood. I added a couple of pics of the Alert samples, one with all of the sheets, and another with the changes.

Just took a couple of pics of what's inside the box. This is Master Shipwright kit number 9, and is just awaiting the photo etched parts to be added, so when they arrive, they can be shipped immediately.
Because everything is protected in bags, I included what cannot be seen again. (Main component parts).
I should find a clear fittings tray, to show off the blocks, cannons etc. but they are all in that little box, quite safe..

gieb8688 reacted to David Lester in Charles W. Morgan by David Lester - Model Shipways - 1/64th scale - FINISHED
Good Morning All,
Well, I have officially finished my Charles W. Morgan. (I would like to say that it's "done and dusted", but I know from experience that the dusting part has only just started.)
Since my last post, the remaining undone bits were the rope coils for the belaying pins, the anchors, the cutting stage and the boats. I didn't post any updates as I was working through these, as they were very simple and straightforward. They didn't pose any problems, and there were no great insights that would benefit anyone from my sharing.
Here are a couple of pictures showing the finished model -
I think I've mentioned it before but it bears repeating how much I enjoyed this model. I think this has to be one of Model Shipways best kits. The plans are excellent with every detail very clearly covered, and the kit is well designed. While it's challenging, at no point do you find yourself fighting with the kit to get a decent result, which is not always the case. If you're looking for a break from naval vessels, this is a great option.
I'm looking for a smaller project next time around and have purchased the Pride of Baltimore II which I'll be starting soon. Those clippers were very beautiful ships and I won't have to build an additional to the house to accommodate the model.
Many thanks for your comments and "likes."

Hi All,
I haven't posted lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working on my model. I have pretty much finished the running rigging and I just couldn't seem to get the model to a presentable state for photos and updates as I went along.
For some reason I found this model very difficult to rig and I don't believe there isn't any aspect of the running rigging that I didn't do over at least once. About half of the belaying pins are completely inaccessible and I seemed compelled to run lines on the wrong sides of things, only to notice it much later! I had a tendency when snipping off the line at the belaying pin to snip on the wrong side of the pin! I was continually messing up the tension with each addition line! etc etc. and there's a fair bit of chain used for the rigging which is very frustrating to work with as it usually needs to be cut to an exact length without much wiggle room. Anyway, I got it done.
I bought some internally stropped blocks from BlueJacket and used them where indicated. I think you can make them out below on the topsail halliards, which are chain.
I also managed to snap off several davits.
So, I'm closing in on the finish line. The remaining items to complete are the whaleboats, the anchors and the stage that attaches to the starboard side.
I'm really pleased with my upgraded blocks on this model. The larger ones (3/16" anc 5/16") as well as the internally stropped blocks are from BlueJacket and the smaller ones (1/8" and 3/32") are from Syren.
I don't know if any of you have ever the noticed the paradox in model building, but this last rigging job has really pointed it out to me. On the whole, this hobby is relaxing, challenging, rewarding, fun, contemplative, meditative, satisfying and any number of other positive things. However, at the same time and paradoxically it seems to comprise nothing but a series of jobs that individually are aggravating, tedious, repetitive, frustrating, and tending to make one bang one's head against the wall! How is this possible? I think we need a new word for this phenomenon. There's a word "synergy" which applies when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. What would be the word when the whole is the opposite of the sum of the parts? Perhaps "frustifaction" or maybe "satistration" I don't know.

OK,
I finished the Speedy prototype model half an hour ago, and have taken some quick pics. Now I have a lot of PC based work to do, box artwork, plans, instructions and parts list.
I had the Alert stern patterns re-designed and re-cut, a pic of one set is included here, these will be included in all new kits.

OK, Speedy hull now complete.
I did have to reduce the length of the chainplates for the 5mm deadeyes by 2mm, as they should only be pinned to the main wale, so the ones shown are a little too low - but rectified for the kit.
Hand pumps finally in place, nice easy builds with PE parts, and the stove chimney is PE this time, to give the correct scale appearance. Everything is now glued down apart from the boat, which is simply pinned in place at this time. Boomkins are missing, but they will be added once bowsprit gammoning is in place (experience...)
I have also included half a dozen hatchets, which were used primarily to cut fouled rigging away.

The pre bending tool makes it a bit easier... but I hope i got this right. It feels that everything else will be relying on getting this in exact position!

Hi all,
A bit more progress, the rear deck fitted last time now has its hand rails and stairs fitted.
Then is was on to the upper deck fitting the cabins, stair, bracing and columns ready for installing.
The finished rear decks and structures with previously made compass platform and a couple of ready ammo boxes.
A few shots of all progress to date
Heading back to Melbourne tonight for who knows how long but looking forward I think I will head concentrate on the ships boat decks amidships which go over and cover all the previously installed skylights etc.
Cheers
Slog

Hello dear colleagues.
I have been looking for a topic for a long time in whom I have not done publications for a long time and it has gone far. However, Chuck Passaro - MSW Admin kindly helped me find the topic. Many thanks to him! Here I publish the finishing photos of the fully-finished model of the imperial yacht Standart. The work that lasted for three years was finished.
