Just a quick update...Alaskan yellow cedar is being used for this model.

The new 1/4" scale stem is now assembled onto the bulkhead former.  The rabbet strip was added to the bulkhead former first (5/32 x 1/16).  After that dried, the Bformer was beveled along the bearding line into the rabbet strip.  Then the stem assembly was glued to that.

Finally, the individual keel pieces which are laser cut were glued in succession along the bottom of the bulkhead former.  To finish it off, the bolts were simulated using 15 pound black mono filament.

I assembled some right angle braces that I designed for the build board to keep the false keel from twisting and bending.  Now its time to laser cut those bulkheads and add them. To give you a sense of size...the build board is 36" long.

    Hello,

today I finished the lower counter.

The only thing left here, is to cut the mortise for the gun port lid into the rail.

Those barrels look marvelous. When I started at the top, I thought them way bigger, until the last image. Quite a surprise ! Lots of patience

    Hello dear friends,
I am very pleased, you like my work. Thank you all for your praise and kind comments.
Well, it seems to be a man´s figure, but if I understand well the description of Vale´s painting from NMM, the central figure is a carving of Queen Catherine.
    http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/15079.html

It depends on the complexity of a particular statuette/decoration, but usually takes me about 2-5 hours. But for example a larger figurehead can take me more than two days....

Oh, good question....  We take turns with my husband or mom. Telling the truth, we often do things together, it's better and faster.

Thank you very much for your support and good advice.I am glad I have decided to recreate the Queen´s sculpture again and believe, now she looks better.

And how you asked about the furnishing of the great cabin - of course I am going to make it in a high level of detail. Maybe I will place there some crew members as well. The decks are not fixes in place yet.

We had a great time at the Northeast Joint Clubs Conference last weekend. Lots of beautiful models on display. My girlfriend, Ofelia, did most of the picture taking. I Finally got to meet a number of MSW members while I was there which was really nice.

Now that I'm back in build mode, I managed to taper the knee of the head and complete the gammoning knee and extension piece that sit above it. Templates were made from the plan drawings and transferred to 3/16" boxwood sheet.

To Druxey - some sails will be partially furled - fore and main course, sprit sail and sprit topsail - from this reason I saved little bit time and made no water holes - they will not be visible.
To Ilhan Gokcay - there are only two folds at the edge. The edges are reinforced with diluted PVA ( 3 (water):1 (PVA) ratio). After drying is posiible tu cut the cloth without fraying. The belts are made from the same reinforced cloth - without folds.
Mike R - bolt rope is attached with glue for textile.
Now all the sails are attached to their yards.

Let's just say that the redo is taking just as long as the first attempt.  I have not cleaned it up yet but I think everyone will agree that it looks better (I hope).  Next on the agenda is making the carvings to be applied to the munions.  These will be similar to the ones between the stern windows.

Since I'm working on the fireplaces, here's a picture now that the iron bars the pots sit on have been installed.  I still have the exterior to plank and the pots to make.  The flash made them redder than then actually are as they're more of a red-brown or rust color.  I wanted them to look like they had been used.

I did reach a milestone of sorts.  I have completed all seven frames in phase one.  The frames will be built and installed in three phases to make it easier to manage.  Phase one has seven frames.  Once the frames are all done and dry fit in the keel,  you can start adding the port framing.  The port framing is tricky but manageable.  You will be removing the frames quite a bit to tweak them and the slots for the port sills so you can get a good fit.  Same is true for the sweep port framing.  Once you have the port framing dry fit nicely,  then we can glue all the frames in this phase permanently to the keel.  Then glue the port framing in too!!!

I havent glued it together yet....but that is the next step.  What you see in the photo are all the frames and port sills simply dry fit port and starboard.  I will glue it all together after the Connecticut show.  Then the frames can be faired outboard...and the alignment tabs you see on the inboard side removed as well...but I get ahead of myself.   Then its onto phase two and another seven frames done exactly the same way.

Looking at the plans, the angle for Atalanta is 8 degrees.  Interestingly, Fly (and apparently Vulture) is 12 degrees.  I had everything correct initially and then got distracted by seeing the framing through the munions.  That would also explain why the lights made up from templates did not fit into the fenestration.  I have ripped the whole thing out.  I also decided that I did not like the look of the bell-top.  It was 4" too wide, resulting in a center light that was also too wide.  Hopefully, the redo will not take as long .

The three section bulkhead former is joined and the bearding line completed. The rabbet strip, knee assembly, keel sections and false keel sections have been added.

24 gauge copper wire was used for nailing the joints. Holes were drilled with a #76 drill bit (.020). This allows the wire to be inserted with a slight press fit into the holes. No gluing necessary.

All of the keel joints were filed flush where the garboard plank will be. To do this I used an equaling file that is only 1/32" thick. http://www.ottofrei.com/Glardon-Vallorbe-Equalling-Special-Thickness-Precision-Files-LP1185?custcol19=14

I placed a plank along the upper edge of the keel to show the result.

Small update.  The pumps are done.  The pic shows the "old" one on the left and the new one on the right.   I've spent the last day or so blackening various brass bits... still more to go along with working on the rigging list.  The pumps are just about 5 foot tall as this seems to be the size.  I'm giving thought to having one rigged to show how they were operated.  For those not into French ships, here's a video of the ones on the  L'Hermione replica:

    Hello again,

and thank you for your likes and comments.
Hubac, now and then you see it in this forum. Also my Dragon has these staples.

After sanding the whole forenoon, I think the lower hull is ready now. I should have started with the first drop plank at the 1. diminishing strake. But later you are always smarter
The next thing to do is, I think the ruder. Then I know how large the opening in the lower counter must really be.

But because here the spring came from one day to the other, I think my garden needs my attention first. The week before Easter we had two snowstorms with each 10 cm snow here. More north they had over 50 cm! One of my oaks lost a big branch then, and the experts will come Friday to cut it out. But also for me is enow left.
