  1.       Thanks all.  Anyway, I did not like the direction the instructions were taking me on installing the upper Gunport lids, so I jumped on the first plane to Boston to see how they were really installed.  Just kidding.  I happened to be in Boston in November and was treated to a after hours tour by MSW member popeyetosea.  I took the attached picture of the actual upper lid and modeled based on that.

I painted the lids and installed the hinges, drill holes for the eyebolts using a #79 drill bit, and installed the eyebolts to the lid.  I then installed another eyebolt to the curtain and glued the lid in place.  From there I simply rigged with black thread and coated it with CA and paint to simulate the wire rope look.

  2. Hello all,

I completed the copper plating on my Constitution a while back and put her aside to complete my Longboat.  I finished the longboat and getting back into Connie.  The problem is, I laid the copper plating on a towel and the plates have accumulated a lot of lint and dust.  What would be the best way to clean the copper plating?  Keep in mind I did individual plates with a small lap and the lint is clinging to those corners.

  3.     Finished the rigging tonight.  Since last post I have rigged the backstays, fore stay, staysail halyard, jib sail outhaul with traveler ring, jib sail halyard, and the flag halyard.  Looks like all I have remaining is to complete the oars and grapnel.  I have some rope coils to make also.

        Here are some pics.

  4. I have been lacking in my updates!  I am involved in the final steps of rigging but I wanted to provide a few photos of what I have been doing.  Built the boom and gaff using provided materials in the kit.  Pretty straight forward and fairly easy to install and rig.

Built the chainplates and deadeyes using the CA method that Chuck describes in his instructions.  Seem to come out pretty good.
