  1. Good afternoon, Dimitris...(early morning here) Thank you so much for your stop at my build log. The decision has been made because I was able to be the winning bidder on Ebay for a Corel kit of the Half Moon. I purchased this kit for quite a bit less than half its normal price. There are several build- logs of this model on MSW and surely, if I proceed with this kit, will be of great help. Henry Hudson sailed up the "Hudson" River in this ship and that has significant meaning to me as I grew up about 15 miles from this river. This is a rather small model which is necessary now that we have begun to run out of room as to where to put it if and when I build it. Keep up the good work on Amerigo; it looks like you're coming along very well. I hope you have a terrific week. 2. Good morning, Gil.. If you get a chance, please check my log, page 67. I have two ship boats on davits, the launch and the barge and one boat sitting in front of the mother ship with oars displayed. I agree that it would be a shame to completely cover the skid beams and hide so much of the detail. I hope you have a nice day. 3. Good afternoon Dimitris.. That's a good question. I haven't made up my mind yet but I have certain perameters that I'll have to follow. The truth of the matter is that the size of the model is very important. There are three other models on display in my house, HMS Victory, Cutty Sark and a turtle boat; there is only room left for a smaller ship. I probably have to limit the size to no more than 700 mm. (about 27 or 28 inches.) I've been looking at a few ships: San Felipe. Royal Luis, Amerigo Vespucci, HMS Racehorse, Derfflinger, a Dutch Whaler and finally the Half Moon. Some of the aforementioned I believe may be too large so I may end up with the the Half Moon as it looks like a fun ship to bui;d and is the right size/ I just don't know for sure. I've been looking at two manufacturers of the Half Moon, Corel and Billings but as I said I haven't made a decision. I hope you are having a nice day. Jerry
  4. Good morning, Dimitris. Thank you for your visit and your compliment. It looks like there's a delay in getting the display case but i expected that. So with a lttle more patience I should receive it by Christmas. Then it's off to the races again with another build. Take care, Jerry
  5. Hello Rich... Just dropped in on your log and am excited to see how well you are doing. I just completed the Pinnace (ship's boat) whch will be the last thing I do regarding this kit. My model is sitting on its table waiting for the acrylic display cover to arrive. (Please see my log, link below) I was notified this morning that the cover won't be ready for another two weeks, so happily, I'll be able to cover the ship before Christmas and get going on something else. It's good to see another person bulding this kit. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. Best, Jerry http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/1951-hms-victory-by-jerry-jotika-scale-172-1805-version-wood/?hl=%2Bhms+%2Bvictory+%2Bjerry
  6. Hello Dimitris.. I would like to wish you good luck with your build. I have just finished building Jotika's HMS Victory and have been looking around for my next build and came across your log. I believe you have a great attitude with respect to the difficulty of your build and I believe you will do a terrific job. The photos so far look good and your work looks clean and sharp. Take care. 7. Hello David, Real good to hear from you. I'm looking forward to the big package under the Christmas tree as I need to start something new. And yes the case should be ready in a few days if the manufacturer didn't tell me a cock and bull story. Thanks for the good words on the Pinnace. It looks like a little bug sitting next to the Victory. I like the idea of it being off the ship. Hope you've been feeling well. Your friend Jerry
  8. Hello Glenn. Many thanks for the visit and compliment. So you're working on the catheads. I have one bit of advice for you. make sure that you groove the slots in the catheads as this will make it a lot easier when you rig the anchors. I hope you understand what I mean; if not, please let me know. Jerry
  9. Good evening everyone. Well, I finished the ship's 3rd boat, the Pinnace and it sits alongside its mother ship waiting for orders. The oars are out and it's ready to go. I believe this finally competes my Victory except for covering it which I hope will be next week at the latest. I intend to dust it with one of those electronic dust removers that comes compressed in a can. I hope I don't blow all of the fittings away. Take care everyone and have a wonderful evening, Jerry
  10. Hello MikeC... Thank you for the high compliment. As mentioned above I'm sitting around waiting for the display case acrylic enclosure and was hoping to find something to do. So, I decided to build the Pinnace, the third of four ship's boats and will display it in the case sitting on the table, in front of the mother ship. Again, many thanks for your visit and good wishes to you.. Jerry
  11. Hello Gil... I love your little buoys; they do indeed look very real. Although I declared my build finished, I have now decided to do a little more. I'm very happy with the way the Barge and Launch turned out so I am going to build the Pinnace and the Cutter but I am not going to mount them on the ship. I plan on making a couple of small cradles and have these two buggers sit in the display case, in front of Victory. I just don't want to hide any detail by locating them on the skid beams. The reason for this monumental decision is that I found myself with nothing to do. My display case is due here in about 10 days so I figure to use that time to construct the remaining ship's boats. I'm also pondering whether or not to start another build. My eyes are not very good these days (old age) and my patience may be running a bit lower. Take care and enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving. Best regards, Jerry
  12. Hello Max.. A beautiful job well done. So now it's time for you and the admiral to go on another vacation. Have a happy. Jerry
  13. Hello John... ...and thank you vehy much for taking the time to visit my log. I wish i could tell you what my next build will be but I haven't made a definite decision. I've been looking at a couple of ships, a Dutch Whaler and another called Derfflinger. But I can't seem to make up my mind. These two models require severe hull planking and that challange along with the fact that they are much smaller than Victory has attracted me. There just isn't much space left in our home for another Victory sized ship model. Nothing definite has crossed my mind yet. So, have a great day and thank you very much for your visit. Best, Jerry
  14. Good morning, David.. Thanks for the trophy plate compliment. I am truly looking forward to having the acrylic cover so i can concentrate on other things, I thought i might clean up my work place and put things away but now i think It's easier to leave everything where it is and build something else. But first I believe i need a break. Have a great day, Jerry
  15. Thank you, Glenn. I look forward to any way I may help you. I feel honored that you would ever seek my advice. Best regards, Jerry
  16. Hello Everyone.... I'm still waiting for the display case to be finished. If the manufacturer is correct then I'll see it in about 2 weeks, In the meantime Victory is happily accumulating dust as she sits on her table patiently waiting for her cover. I did have a trophy plate made and it is mounted at the bottom of the cradle also waiting for he acrylic cover. I miss the frequent postings and look forward to another build one of these days. My best to everyone and to those who celebrate...Happy Thanksgiving!! Best, Jerry
  17. Hello Glenn. You're like the battiries....you know..you just keep going...and going...and going...But as David said, it's going well. It's a pleasure to see your determination to do things right. I've been spending some time trying to creat a slideshow of my build. One of these days I'll complete it and if i think it's okay, I'll figure out how to post it. Hope you're having a great weekend. Best regards, Jerry
  18. Hello Glenn...The purpose of this post is to offer you empathy. Many times I installed something incorrectly necessitating a 'redo." I never noticed your error from the photos as it is hard to clearly see. But I'm happy you found the mistake when you did as later on it would be a bit more difficult. All in all you are developing a beautiful build which will make you happy. Take care and good luck, Jerry
  19. Gil...All I can say is your anchor mounting is Out of sight.!! Beautiful and so well done. Thanks for the photos. Jerry
  20. Hello Glenn...Nice work; I'm sure happy to be finished with this stage of the build and looking forward to the next phase. So far everything looks very well cared for as I see you are particular as to how you do things. I believe you are moving at a quick pace but when you are unhappy with something you take the time to do it over differently. All in all, a good job. One thing, though, I followed the manual and have two rigging threads per gunport which I guess, according to you, is not authentic. Well,it's too late now as my next phase will be putting Victory in her display case. Look forward to your next posting. Best, Jerry
  21. Glenn..I really like David's idea because the concave surface of the bead gives the look more authenticity. Way to go, David. Keep going, Glenn...you're creating a treasure. Jerry
  22. Glenn, like I said before you have it down pat. We'll be watching for the enjoyment. Jerry
  23. OK Glenn... Keep it going. Looks like you have it down pat. I'll be anxious to see the lids and doors in place. I left one door free to open and close, for the fun of it , but i permanently glued the other door slightly open. Have fun, Jerry
  24. Good morning, Gil... The display set up for your Constitution looks excellent. It is perfectly neat and obviously custom built. So where will you display Victory? Maybe you are creating a museum as you say. Your pieces (models) certainly are in that catagory. You may have noticed in my log that my Victory display case, when completed, will be similar except the case itself will be acrylic. I was very fortunate when browsing the Internet to find a table whose dimensions were absolutely perfect, 60 x 32 inches, and 18 inches high, to accommodate the model.. I wanted a low profile due to Victory's large size. The table is a dark finished trestle table made by Wayfair. It can also be seen on their web site, Wayfair.com. I have ordered the case from a local plastic specialty company here in Naples and don't expect to see it until mid December. It is designed with a removable back to allow easy placement of Victory under the case and onto the table. A 3/4 x 3/4 inch acrylic "picture frame", whose outside dimensions equal the case's inside dimensions will sit flat on the table and the cover (case) will fit over it. Victory will rest on small cradle that I made and stained black walnut and will finish with a few coats of a satin polyeurothane. Since I didn't want to be presumptious, and clutter your log site with a picture of my table, I hope you will check my log to see it. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/1951-hms-victory-by-jerry-jotika-scale-172-1805-version-wood/?hl=%2Bhms+%2Bvictory+%2Bjerry page 65 I hope you have a fantastic day. Best regards, Jerry
  25. Hi Lawrence...Thanks for the slide show information. I'll definitely look into smile Box as you recommended. Take care, Jerry
