Dang Augie, you got little mini shipwrights working with you there?  You're "sailing" right along...

Sorry, I had to make at least one ship pun somewhere!

My work would be 100000000% more awful if it weren't for this forum. This is what keeps me from yelling and pulling my hair out during work hours. The coffee isn't bad either.

Looks good Augie!  Ignore my words of sarcasm...  Until you plank around those gunports (inside and out!)

So the pot is empty ...

... time to do something more important and worthy ...

... as both scuttles for the vent trunks were mere black holes. So they got their wooden cases and look much more in tune now  :-)

And here some fresh impressions from the shipyard.

    Good night, Daniel

Here's the steps.  I'm not sure how historically accurate this is, but it works for me and I like it
And I LOVE working with this pear wood...  If any of you that haven't tried hardwoods are on the fence about it, by all means do it!!!  You'll love it,,,

    Here's what I'm after...

    Another dry dock shot...

    Time for a small update.

The quarter deck sills and lintels are now completed.  After straightening out the 'glitch' from the last session (Igor ------ more isopropanol!!!), I used  3/4" spacers to set the sills.  This worked quite well:

Once that was completed, I added the top rail which defines the height of the gunports .  These will be 6 pounders and required a 5/16" spacer and some sanding/beveling of the upper tips of the bulkhead 'horns'.

Did a little more fairing and removed the temporary protective timbers off the horns.

We will now be moving on to setting the uprights on all the gunports.  Chuck has provided a template for this (bless him).

Oh, we are 100 hours into the build

Wow, thanks for all the compliments!  Not sure I deserve them though....

Patrick - Perfect?? not sure about that but thanks for saying!

Guess I should've said steps TO the bowsprit.  See the image from the Hull model.  Any of you that have, or have built, the Revell Conny might remember them.  I'm pretty sure they're accurate to 1812'ish, but were removed sometime later.  I'm just "winging it" based on my old Revell model and making it fit.  About halfway done at this point....  No pics yet

    More Coamings....

The one on the right is the galley stack coaming,I cut the recess down in a router table.

    And done with these....

Now I'm scratchbuilding the "steps" that go to over the bowsprit as the MS version doesn't have them.  I'm also making it out of lumber I milled myself!

The workshop is back to shipshape and things have settled down enough for some build time...

The gun deck has come along:

The first need was to finally get the beam stanchions in place.  These were some of the first items I attempted for this deck, but I couldn't get anything satisfying...  I first thought to just use some stanchions from the extra Heller Victory kit in my stash, but those were too wimpy.  I bulked up my own version and test fitted those... Still too wimpy.  And worse, I couldn't seem to keep them consistently straight and true.

Finally I decided to use my thickest rod and position them into holes drilled through the decking.  I did the base and caps using the square tubing in my styrene pile.  I reamed it out with the appropriate drill bit matched to the rod and slid them into position along the rod with enough sticking down to pass through the deck.  That did the trick.

To keep all the deck features secure I added some rod underneath to fit through similar holes drilled into the deck:

The appropriate holes were drilled through all along the deck to accept the various components

You'll notice that at some point I decided that the pumps should all sit on a raised platform amidships.  Just seemed like the right thing to do.

Here are some views of all the gun deck features test fitted:

I've put one of the Admiral day cabin bulkheads from my Heller Victory in place to see what it might look like if I added the Captain's suite to the deck.  It has potential, but I think I'll stick with my stated intention of not including this and keep the gun deck cleared for action.

    Spare anchor stored amidships:

    Manger

    Pumps

I think I'm just about ready to paint the darn thing!

    Thanks for following along
    Evan

The lintels for the gun ports on the main gun deck have been completed.  I used 3/8" spacers to set the height.  And our paper cannon has returned

And here's just a longer range shot

Will be moving on now to the sills and lintels for the ports on the quarter deck.

For the base, kit had provided plywood, the base was rebuilt with walnut strips...

OK, got the first coaming done.  (thanks to Lambsbk for reminding me of my ship's terminology!)

I was worried about making these little rascals but this one really weren't that bad!

Anyway, I added the trim pieces ran long to come back and trim down later.

    Trimmed and dressed the edge.

    glued the rest on

    And finished it up.

Laid down some boxwood planking to see how the finished install will look, and of course couldn't resist setting in it's future home...

Now on to the rest of the coamings....
