    Great progress.
I was thinking of of adding stanchions around that orlop companionway. Looking at your gundeck there would be almost nothing to see.  I guess Chris had already thought of that!

    good evening everyone
thank you for comments and likes
    day 5 and 6
the main deck went down without any issues
next is the 8 in number inner bulkhead pieces, the frames needed a bit of sanding to allow them to sit flush against the max amount of wood, again there was no issues with this and i did not need to soak them, an overnight under clamps and they are sitting quite nice, i dont believe much of these will be seen later on, hope to finish them tomorrow,

    lots of test fitting

     day 3
the build up of the bulkheads continues, but not a lot more to do on that part, sanding the inner frames over the weekend and laying/planking the main deck
its been a dream to put together,
intentions are at this stage is to let the wood do the talking, after all a lot of it is going to be boxwood, so unless i completely mess up the hull planking, there will be no added colour, just varnish

Indy kits are being completed with plans and manual. The boxes are 175mm deep (7 inches), and near full to the top, with just a tad over 15kg total weight, so care needs to be taken when handling this behemoth...

  7. Thanks!

OK, I have just received my shipment of Indy plans, manual and box label (I took a pic of the manual and a few plans, but not all of them, as we need to lay them all out in order later). The manual is very nice quality, very big (A3) and very heavy!

This means Indy is officially on sale now, and as I mentioned in my previous post, all pre orders will be booked to ship next week.

I have also attached a couple of pics of new flags that came this week - a Blue Ensign, so I now have the complete set of Red, White and Blue sets. Also, I had some US flags made, in keeping with the correct period for Grecian (I hope)!

  8. Thanks!

The Indy pre orders will all be shipped next week. I am expecting the printed material to be with me today or tomorrow. The pre orders are all already packed and just need the plans and instructions added.

That’s a great spot from a quick snap!

I had real trouble with the stanchions - I did not have a mini plane and found it difficult to get a decent octagon just by filing.  I always meant to go back and finish the other side.  Then Pegasus sailed in and I moved on.  I did add the swivels to her and the stanchions were a breeze with a veritas mini plane.  I still have the swivel guns, maybe one day!

Hey Kev et al.,  I made an executive decision, and I am going to delay installation of sweep port lids until I have finished everything else.  I made one sweep port lid to the best of my ability, and it came out perfectly fine (see below) But drilling 36 0.5mm holes in the side to firmly install them is toooooo much and tooooo many holes in my opinion.  I don’t have a drill press (yet), and the Dremel wobbles, etc.  I will hand drill 0.7 mm holes for the pins on the channels and see how that goes, because I HAVE TO DO THAT.  But I like the look of the open sweep ports, so when all is done, I will simply glue the sweep port lids in the open position, without drilling any holes, and handle with extreme care.  Or not attach them.  I don’t want to close all those sweep ports I so carefully cut out of the boxwood hull planking.  Had I thought of it when I was cutting them out, I would have drilled the holes then, before doing all the installation of deck pumps, quarterdeck rails, cannons, etc.
    For perspective:

    Eye bolt on other side…

And a picture or two of the Secret Vessel in its berth on Roanoke Island.

I was lucky - it was early in the build and only a cracked stem and a few stern supports.

Good luck with those ports, Brian.

The hinge is very fine from memory.  I took the easy way out and kept them closed.  You can obviously see the ports from inboard.

Well that's Christmas and New Year over with.

My build was interupted by 5 weeks in London but I have managed to get some modelling done over the festive period.

I swithered whether to paint the hull below the waterline as I was really happy with the second planking. In the end the paint won over. However the first blast of the airbrush highlighted all the imperfections that the Mark 1 eyyeball did not. SO it was stripped back, filled, sanded and re sprayed. Not perfect but I am happy with it.

Progress with the quarterdeck and bulkhead. I am no artist so stuck to out of the box.
I have never used such weird decals in my life. Having to paint the rear was, well weird! Some decent water slide decals would be better as there are plenty of great products to avoid silvering.

The pencil techique was used for the caulking and it looks good.

The forecastle is next and decided to add two cannon. Not overly happy with the tackle - especially the one to the rear of the truck. If the gun was hauled in it would not be fully inboard. However if I move the ring back it will foul the belfry and windlass assembly. Half of me says it wont really be seen when the deck is attached - but i know it is there. Any suggestions?

Finally just a few other pictures

No modelling this weekend as off to the firm's ball!

    Disaster for Scotland!

Dropped my ship down the stairs

I was taking it to the utility room to clean it with white spirit after a sanding session on the sheer rail, when butter fingers let it slip at the head of the stairs. It landed on the stem then stern before sliding down the remaining stairs on the keel. Damage: part of the stem snapped off and two stern supports broken. Luckily not much else damaged. So a bit of glue and care and actually she is not in bad shape.
