fnick got a reaction from Landlubber Mike in Revell Tie fighter - 1:110 by Fnick (Finished)
Hi all
The tie fighter is finally finished. I opted to use humbrol Matt varnish as I did another test and it worked fine. Unfortunately grrrh the windows have completely misted up...😠
Anything I can do? Clean it carefully with white spirit maybe? I'll let the photos do the talking. The colours are a lot lighter than in real life. I had to use the flash just to see the details. I'll try again tomorrow in the middle of the day
Thanks for looking in.

fnick got a reaction from Duanelaker in Le Mirage by fnick - Corel - 1:75 - wood
Morning everyone
Small amount of progress. First cannon build. Got a smaller one to do and I can start drilling the round gunnports.
The barrel was already as shown above but I used birchwood brass blacken on the trunnion. Worked really well. Quick and easy to use ( I have no affiliation with the company by the way).
Gun lines up pretty well with the existing gun port. Phew! 😀
Thanks for visiting

fnick got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in Le Mirage by fnick - Corel - 1:75 - wood
Morning all
I now have a table saw! 😀😁
Wow the difference. Would have taken me 30min to cut 3 or 4 handrail supports, file them.all 50 odd I needed done in 10min with a far superior finish. ,£120 very well spent!
So handrails are nearly all installed as shown below.
And chamfered
Remaining handrails are made with golden columns. All I need to do is get rid of a few remaining superglue spots and it's time for a coat of Danish oil.
I won't do the deck yet.
Thanks for looking.

Evening All
(About!) Time for an update.
Nothing much. Another planking section completed. Only four to go. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
As usual, comments/criticisms gratefully received!
Thanks for looking

Hi everyone
Since I have restarted my build of Le Mirage I thought it was time to resurect my build log from the ashes of the Great crash of 13!
This will be more of a summary rather than a detailed log. Lots of pictures, some words. You never know some of it might be interesting!
I started this build 3 years ago. Yes progress is slow but in my defence having two children in that time has somewhat limited build time...
Comments/criticisms/etc gratefully received. Always good to get feedback of more experienced modellers.
Anyhoo enough of the intro. Hope you're sitting confortably. Popcorn ready?... Good.
A few box content pictures to get going
The box
Inside the box
This is my second build after the Billing Bluenose and I have to say I was very impressed with the quality of the materials. However the bulkhead slots needed some adjusting...
All the bulkheads in place
Unfortunately I didn't notice until way too late that the first one was higher up than it should have been. First mistake (and not the last! )
The slots in the bulkheads are used to determine where the gun ports are.
and again
although that didn't stop me forgetting some gun ports (told you there were more mistakes!)
Well that's the limit of 8 photos per post reached. Until the next post...

fnick got a reaction from Landlubber Mike in Revell Tie fighter - 1:110 by Fnick (Finished)
Hi all
Shipyard is in the garage and it being a bit too cold to go in there during the winter I thought I'd do something a bit different:
Also had a case of builders block with Le Mirage... And also really wanted to finish a kit in less than 20 years! I've been watching a few (lots!😄) Of plasmo's videos to get some tips. I've not got too many progress pics but here there are
As you can see I've gone for a greyer colour than the box art which just looks too much like blue to me.
Question for the more experienced plastic modellers out there: what kind of spray varnish (out of rattle can or with brush) is the best? I've tried humbrol acrylic varnish out of spray can but it comes out far too quickly and also appears to make the paint crack...
Thanks for looking in

fnick reacted to cog in Revell Tie fighter - 1:110 by Fnick (Finished)
As long as the boxes do not hit the table, there isn't anything to build
Nick, don't mention it. Currently testing Mr Paint both enamels and acrylics. I really like the enamels for airbrushing.

Nope, he thinks everybody is like him
Fnick, I used Vallejo rattlecan lacquers for the destroyers I have built, and for a BF 109G I used AK from a bottle, because I didn't have any satin left in a can. In the end it all boils down to preference.
P.s. I didn't like Valleyo bottled lacquers for use in an airbrush, with a conventional brush it worked as expected

Thanks Edward! As tempting as that is😄 I've got an airfix starter kit of an Aston Martin DB5 that my best man gave me on my 40th which was nearly 3 years ago... Probably should start that first! Kit isn't brilliant but it will be a good way to get back into doing car kits.
Nick
Ps: can't get too hooked on plastic kits Le Mirage will end up being exactly that!

I should add it's not finished yet. C
A few patches to tidy up and I also need to try and accentuate the panel lines on the main body. I do have a dark grey wash but it doesn't appear to flow in the lines easily. Might be worth getting Tamiya panel Line.
