well gee.......thanks Borge!  quoting with pictures involved looks rather odd though.......so, let's recap.

thanks for looking in and the good word!

so, it began with this box of parts called the Maine lobster boat.

then after the major goof,  and the subsequent build of the Denny-Zen........we arrived with this.

now that I've gone as far as I can with the Denny-Zen,  without involving the Phylly C,  they were both brought together again, for another comparison check.

so, now it's time to add the bit of bling that the Phylly C is supposed to have.  it begins with a flag staff

it's not much.........today is the admiral's birthday.   I built her a model birthday cake.   it came out very good......and with a scoop of fudge ripple ice cream along side,  made for a rather tasty repast!

of course I just had to sing her the three stooges birthday song

I did some work on making up the monitor screens like I did on the M&M build........but I think I'm running out of color ink.   I'll just have to make do with what I have.....I think I'll be OK.   there's a bit more to come.   I finished one of the builds I wanted to get out of the way........now for the lobsie twins

hi Carl,   my friend........wild horses couldn't keep me away!

    11 - 15 - 2012

The sides are up,  now the rest of the cabin parts need to be cemented in place. the fore cabin front wall,  the windshield,  the dash top,  all needs to be added.

With the way the windows are assembled,  I'm going to reinforce the walls with a frame.   it will also help when it's time to do the windows.

the fore cabin roof beams were cemented in place.

test fitting the windows gave me what I needed for the dash top.   alond the sides of the windshield frame will be reinforced as well.   the inner most fore cabin beam was doubled up to support the windshield frame and the dash top.

The dash top is supposed to be part of the fore cabin roof,  but not wanting to install the roof before painting the cabin,  I thought it best to do it this way.

The outer helm roof beam was cemented in place to keep the roof parts together.  it also serves to protect the roof line from getting broken.

The shoe and rudder was cemented in place

after all this was finished and allowed to dry,  the doors were assembled onto the traps.

the adjustment was made to the sorting table......it looks a bit better.

the trap near the crane was cemented in place first..........

the other lobster is on the sorting table........

I failed to get any pictures of the rope tying and such,  but here are the finished pictures of the rest of the traps.  they are all cemented in place.

this ends the saga of the traps........a few more props,  and this boat will be finished.   I can then do the Phylly C,  which will require a lot less to finish that one off.   Enjoy!!!

The kit would have had me simply tie the lines to the ends of the boom/gaffs.  I dug out some 'leftover' ringbolts and modified the ends of the boom/gaffs to better reflect the 'real thing.'

    The Gaffs with Vangs attached.

Attaching blocks to the Stays for the Fore and Aft Running Rigging.

And at this point I have 'caught up' to myself.  Soon after these photos were taken I suffered a slipped disc with accompanying sciatica and I am still recovering from that.  Thus I have not been able to continue rigging as I cannot sit for extended periods and to accomplish rigging requires just that.  This might have been more frustrating but the Great Crash gave me a focus to divert my creative need to rebuilding the Build Log.  Now that the Log has been restored I can focus on not going crazy waiting to continue the rigging.

hello Marc,   looking over your build,  I found very interesting.   I don't think there is a kit made,  that someone hasn't bashed one aspect or another.   I've found that we all have a tecnique that is unique,  and we're willing to share with others.   it's always refreshing to try out new things,  especially if the outcome yeilds the same result.  do continue with your build.........it would be cool to see what else you might encounter,  and your methods for resolve.

popeye the sailor reacted to Foremast in Hanseatic Ship c. 1470 by Foremast - 1:50 scale
    Hello all,

we are still in the fore area. Here, I had to solve a double problem.
First, the whole portion of the main deck that's beneath the foredeck is well visible, because of the great fore opening; this means I had to make a complete and good-looking arrangement about: frames, hanging knees, deck beams and - above all - internal planking.
Second, the bulwark had to be thin: either because this wasn't a structural part of the ship (shipwrights surely used a thin timber-covering avoiding dangerous hight weights and saving a bit of money ...), or because of the gunports, where an excessive visible thickness of the planking would have been terrible to see.

So I decided to make a very light double planking. The internal one, with 0,5 mm thick mansonia nut strips, a bit stained and sanded to simulate something old and gloomy. The external one, with 1,0 mm strips of the same wood. So making, I solved an additional problem: how avoid fissures between the strips? Being the internal area well visible, and as well the external one , even the smallest crack between the strips would have shown an awful (and unrealistic) spot of light. I couldn't use glue to fix strips side to side: because of their minimal thickness, I would have been sure to have lots of glue residues. The trick was to place the two plankings at different height. The internal one, began and ended with a 2,5 mm-wide strip, while in the middle all strips were 5mm wide; the external one was all made with 5 mm wide strips. In this way, the bulwark is thin enough, resistant, without fissures ... and only an expert eye can see that it was made in double planking.

    Regards

    Alex

Harvey, John & Popeye - Thanks for the kind words

I'm still catching up at this point and I'm sad to say I have nothing 'new' to add yet as I'm still unable to sit for long enough to work on the Dame.  Frustrating, yes, but the coincidence in timing (slip a disc, the Great Crash occurs) makes me feel like some Greater Force is at work and I'm just getting caught in the undertow

Here's some views of the Purchase for the Halliard.

A couple of reference photos, I think I used one of these on Facebook for a while ...

Attaching a 'single line' Halliard - I think is one of the Topgallant Yards.

A shot of the belaying point for the Purchase with rope coil in place.  I framed this to also give a nice view of the fife rail in the foreground.

The Cro'jack Halliard belayed - as mentioned before this is a single line Halliard.

A view of the Main Upper Tops'l Yard Halliard where it is belayed.

Here I was trying to mimic the angle of a photo of the real thing that I found on the Net.
