Tonight I worked and actually completed all 5 of the launchers.  They didn't have many parts and painting probably took the longest. I think they came out nice:

I started on the paravanes and that's it for all the major sub-assemblies. From there I have to start thinking about the hull and placement of decks and that kinda stuff!  I'm scared! When it's done, who wants to buy it from me?  I have no idea where I can put it!

    The seamster

The awning lashing is thin rope with beeswax, and a level of care to prevent pull through of the three-layer silkspan.

The outside perimeter lashing is finished so it was time for half-beauty shots.
The awning was temporarily propped in place but no attempt was made to insert the posts into the sockets or lash the perimeter posts.
The lashing is reasonably spaced and tensioned.
I tried for a shot to replicate the photo of the exercising nurses, but without the nurses.  Next step is the interior lashing.  Then the awning will be put aside until the port railing is ready to install.

    Hello people,
I finished the quads and this is as good as it's going to get. Just way too delicate and badly documented. I did some work with the launchers today and then come the paravanes. Before I start buttoning stuff up, I have to spray everything with some clear to get rid of that CA frosting. Sometime back, I was watching a "police" show and they actually use cyanoacrylate to lift prints! No for the stickiness, but for the outgassing and frosting. They will allow the CA to emit its stuff and the prints become visible due to the "frosting" effect. The very same thing that happens when building models! I hate that!
    Anyway, here's the quads.

Tigerdvr reacted to fake johnbull in HMS Rodney by jock2000 - Trumpeter - 1/200 - PLASTIC
    Hello Jock2000,

The object you are asking seems to be "Pom pom gun director".
I found Trumpeter kit instruction by chance(https://issuu.com/modeland/docs/03709), and instruction shows the object to be glued corner of "director control tower platform".

But I believe there should be single 20mm Oerlikon MG in this position when she adopted atructive camouflage.

Above image is from Pontos grade up set.

And my 1/700 model of Rodney(https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNVs5uetAQMQkkC2WQZiGWTZbEHBS4RZXcPzqHA1inJubKjROC32A-155Dr_oe0ZQ?key=eHlrY1pHSEwweEUtZHB3azNlU0VHY2p0N3Nodzl3).

Unfortunately Trumpeter kit seems to be "chimera" from different time frame of Rodney. For example painting instruction shows her 1942 camouflage pattern, and "most of" AA gun positions seems to be right in her 1942 configuration. OTOH, kit PE parts for radar on both mast peak seems to be Type 279, but they should be Type 281 in 1942.

Also Trumpeter kit shows quadruple 0.5"MG on aft corner of bridge structure. They are right for her earlier war years, but this should be replaced pom pom derector with Type 282 radar. Below is instruction from Tom's Modelworks 1/700 PE set and shows these alternation.

Of course this is your model, and you have privilege to decide how to build your model. But still I hope my info of above would be help for you.

    Regards,
    Mitsuaki

Bill and Lou, quite awhile ago I discovered the bathtub trick wasn’t an option because the ship is too big.  I have been scouting the nearby pond but it has two large aerating fountains that create continuous ripples, waves at 1:96.  I am unsure how far my two channel radio signal will carry and I don’t want the ship lost to the waves or spray circles.  The next test option (other than buying waders) is my son’s swimming pool which was kindly offered and will likely be accepted.  I was thinking today or tomorrow on the eve of the lifeboat invasion but the forecast is storms both days.  I’m just as anxious to finish the ship as to sail it, so for better or worse the lifeboats will be installed prior to sailing.  I guess it’s all in or go home.  At the moment the ballast amount and positioning is my biggest concern (unless you say otherwise) but the upper decks are removable which should make for easier shifting, adding or subtracting.  The ship starts with two six volt gel cells, one for power centrally located and one forward for backup and to balance the aft motor so think I’m headed in the right direction.

    Invasion!

At dawn the lifeboat invasion commenced, starting with a sweep of the landing area.  An aerial overview and other early images were quickly dispatched to avoid duplicating the tragic loss of the D-Day photo record.

The warriors remain packed and hunkered down in their landing craft until the davits are solidly dug in to the boat deck.  Some are trying to quell their anxiety with illicit rum.
Digging in - one man slightly off the mark but not bad for the fog of battle
    Starboard positions established

    Surrounding the accessways.

    All eight positions achieved
    Awaiting the next wave

The kit Trumpter 1/200 the RC is after market. I will need to add rudder servo, speed controller, battery pack and receiver. Lights and other moving parts are in the planning stage. Also using PE kit.

Added larger rudder for RC this required a small modification to the hull. I use 5 min epoxy to fix to hull.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and techniques. I'm probably old enough to be your dad but have been learning something each time you post. We don't have time to experiment with all the options so sharing is a great help.
Is your work station always that neat & clean, come on, fess up. That's a great setup.
Looking forward to your next post(s)

    Good eve,
I finished the 4 inch HA guns:

I am going to leave one uncovered just to show off the detail. They even have little seats!!  I'm just going to set the "hood" next to it.

    Tomorrow are the pompoms!!!'

Look at all that fiddly crap! I have been looking forward to this since the beginning since it is incredibly detailed.  After surgery to the original parts, you're pretty much left with nothing and rebuild it all with brass. Very nice.

To those watching this blog and saying nice things, I just want to say anyone can do it. I turn 60 this year. I have diabetes, I have had surgery to my eyes, I just don't have the same vision I did a long time ago nor the "hand eye" coordination, but as long as you don't shake too much, you can do it. I fortunately have pretty steady hands and good enough vision (thanks to reading glasses!), that I can do this. A steady hand, in my opinions is even more important than perfect vision. NOTHING will keep you from shaking, and even a tiny shake can have some disastrous consequences. So give it a try! Start with something with less detail. The 1/200 kits from Trumpeter come with some PE included that you can practice with. Or you can go for a 1/350 with included PE. Anyone can do it.
    Thanks again for the compliments!

Maybe start to do build logs on the planes also if that is interesting for you. I don’t do it today because I think it is glue and paint  But when I think on it so it is how I have learned and still are learning when I see other people’s work and technics.
