    Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments. Bill, I agree that it would have been nicer with some ship parts instead of the marker, but as I said : It's free, and as Bob said: Free is good

    On to the build:

    This shipments two first frames:

As usual the laser cutting is great. Just had to sand away a little of the charring and they fit nicely together.

The two "fillers" in the bow:

In my previous post you can see them as parts 2x2c.

3 frames and the "deck" mounted:

    The last 3 frames:

And here mounted with the 3rd part of the keel:

And that was all of the hull for now. On to painting some decorations. They include two cherubs, two gunport lion heads and one knight. I also have to get more paint. Being color blind this is not my favorite shopping trip...

    Until then...

A small update on the anchor.

Also impossible to hide the plywood layering so I made new.

Left plywood, right new from old scrapwood:

    Plywood:

    And the new again:

    Stained with oakstain:

I have still not decided if I will do tree-nailing on the stock.

About three weeks to next shipment now...

Those joints are a superb fit, no gaps at all .  Having parts that good always inspires confidence in the build

More pictures from the second planking:

Beakhead bulkhead as per museum plans.

I had started mahogany planking from the keel upwards with the view to paint over it with white.
When I decided against that approach, I purchased more walnut and proceeded with walnut planking all the way to the keel.
I also cut the plywood keel off and replaced with walnut.

    Cabin windows:

A bit more work on the DQ. The Texas (or Hurricane) deck is on and more windows in place. This brings the total up to over 150 so far. If you like windows, this is the kit for you. I had trouble at first with windows falling off after gluing. It turns out that I need to scuff up the backs of the windows to provide a good medium for the thin CA. That and kicker has the windows on pretty firmly. After priming and painting there should not be a problem with windows falling off.

I still need to put in the doors. The plan indicates that they are wood panel doors which I am not going to attempt. I have the stamped out Saito doors which I might paint some wood color. I need to check some pictures to see if these are indeed painted white. BTW, one of the good parts of the kit are the stampings for the windows and doors. They actually came out quite nice.

I have to deal with the shear before painting. It is really bad and due to very poor die cutting of the cabin sides. I assume that at one time the parts were die cut perfectly but as time went on not much maintenance was done on the dies.

Hmm, just noticed the missing window on the Cabin deck.

    Until next time,

    Bob:
The wood is great quality, as is the laser cut. I guess the pre marking helps a beginner a lot. You'll have to be illiterate and blind to glue the parts in the wrong place. (I hope this comment won't jump up and bite me later on...)

    Jan:
I've been thinking of one of these:

Attached the frame and supports yesterday. Der FRAU has some strange idea that I should go to bed so I didn't post them last night...

Frame #7 (the 4th frame), foremast support and bottom "deck":

    Cannon deck/frame supports glued on:

She'll be one big tub, 4th frame 172 mm wide!

Next is the anchor. Instructions say to paint it "metallic grey", gives the color code RAL 5011, which is labelled "Steel blue".
I'll probably go with Admirality's matt metal black.
    We'll see.

    Hi Mates,

Working on those falconets that seem to have also been on the Vasa.

    Pic 1 from the 1/10th

Pic 2 are examples from Clayton Johnson’s build of all of the various canons that were cast for the ship. Here is a link to all of his work for the cannons (if you care to look) beautiful work

    https://sites.google.com/site/clayton707/1-10-scale-vasa-artillery

Pic 3 falconets seem to have disappeared in more recent photos – hmmm?—

------- Wheels were cut from dowel. I rolled the dowel, not cutting clear through (for obvious reasons) then just sawed the inner bits. The carriages had been built at the same time that I put together the weather deck ones.

Used brass framing to articulate the metal framing for the carriages (simple tools helped) - not sure how to represent their attaching pins? May just let that bit go...

    To be updated…..

PS: My big frustration with this ship (and all Vasa kits) has to do with all of the totally incorrect cannons that are supplied. But I understand – there were so many diff. size cannons mounted aboard that it would make this bit of detail cost prohibitive just for the Vasa kit. Let’s see if the DeAgostini 1/65 get’s these right???

    Cheers,
