Well I see it's only been 6 years since my last update😊. I recently was able to improve the color of the light yellow on the sides of the ship. I never liked how light/bright it was after painting it with the model expo water based paint I had used originally. So I did a "wash" using diluted oil based paint and applied that over it and it looks better to me. I've made a little more progress on the build also. I'm trying to figure out the best way to continue with the masting and rigging and reviewing other build logs to help me with that (or I might do another easier kit with better instructions first since it seems overwhelming to me). Hoping to have more time to work on this soon! Thanks for looking, Dave Barnard

Hi Pat, I placed my order on Oct 23rd and the price was 2618 JPY plus 420 JPY for shipping to Missouri USA for a total of 3038 JPY. That was $27.64 at the time. Thanks, Dave

I received one of these fine saws from zootoyz today. It arrived very carefully packed and included the Japanese cloth which itself is quite nice as a decorative wall item. Very happy with the transaction and saw. They sent me several emails regarding the status after placing the order. I've tried the saw, it works great, very easy to control, and it's definitely going to come in handy. David

Hi Darrell, I'm going to take another stab at getting serious about the masting and rigging of my Niagara. Can you please tell me what is needed or what you used anyways to replace the rope and blocks using Syren items, if you have an estimate of that? Thank you and thanks for your log....it is giving me some good inspiration! David

I know you finished this a while ago, but I've been away. I am planning to get back to my Niagara in the hopefully near future and I'm ready to start the rigging. Your work is amazing and will be immensely helpful and inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing and the great photography too! Dave Barnard

Looking really nice! Thanks for the excellent descriptions, pictures, and suggestions. I have this kit, will probably do it next, and I wasn't around for the previous Granado build logs you mentioned so yours will be a nice reference I can tell from the quality of your work. Dave

I am working on the jib boom and flying jib boom parts. The plans show two of something called a "dumb sheave" at the ends of each of these. The plans appear to show (in the close up view) that these refer to a hole and/or slot through the part, vertically. One looks like it is right at the end, kind of a vertical groove in the end of the part, with the other dumb sheave being a hole just before the end. Is this correct? Thanks, Dave

Another Niagara build log.... I'm Dave, from Columbia, Missouri. This is my fourth ship model project. My first, the Marseille by Mamoli, I built about 30 years ago and it turned out well for my first kit. Then I started the USS Constitution kit by Mamoli when I was in my 20's and got frustrated and put it away (it's still in my closet). I didn't build any more ship kits until I bought this Niagara kit 13 years ago. After planking the hull and deck I again got sidetracked as our children were born and I put it away. In the past few years I have completed two kits, both with the help of Bob Hunt's practicums, his Halifax kit and also the Kammerlander Duke William kit and I think these both turned out nicely. Of course, there were step by step instructions so it was easy to just follow along and produce a good result. So a couple months ago I decided to try a bigger challenge and complete my Niagara kit. I have been trying to get some good photos and I'm having some trouble getting them to look as good as I want but here are a few, showing where I'm at currently. I have benefitted from all the other Niagara build logs here, so thanks everyone for your assistance. Patrick suggested I do a build log so here goes. My main issue at this time is that the instructions don't really provide a lot of guidance as to the order to do the various steps in the masting and rigging. I'm hoping I have done everything I should before starting on them. I have done the rough shaping of all the masts and yards and I think I will continue to refine these and try to make them look like the plans show with all the various little parts attached to them. So that's what I'm working on now. I happily welcome any comments and suggestions! Dave B

can I change my Memeber Name?
Dave B replied to Dave B's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
Thanks for the responses everyone. Since it's so easy I think I will not change it at this time. Plus I'm not exactly sure what I would want to change it to. I'll wait and see if people get me mixed up with others (it's only happened once so far that I know of). Dave -
Hi, I don't see this answered in the Help files, hope it's not already been asked. Is there a way to change my Member Name without changing anything else or losing my posts? I noticed that my name of Dave B is too similar to another name (Dave B.) who registered before me (sorry about that Dave B.!) and I'm afraid this may lead to confusion. I think there's a David B too. So I'd rather just change my member name. If this is not possible then I think I'll just start over and register again before posting more or starting my build log I was going to do. Thanks, Dave

Hi Patrick....this is one great looking ship you have built! I am just starting the masting/rigging on my Niagara and I have been referring to your build log and photos which I find very helpful to supplement the kit instructions. Thanks for sharing your work! David

mkmossop, I think it looks great the way it is. It's a different section of the ship. It's not like the forward half is darker or something like that. Rather, it appears from your description and the photo that the entire upper section is all the same color. It looks to me like there is enough difference in the two shades that it was meant to be that way. Like I said, it looks really nice to me. I wouldn't try to change it. Could end up not looking as nice then. Keep up the great work. Dave

Thank you Patrick for taking the time to put your Niagara log back up. Sure is a nice job you are doing and it's an inspiration for me. I am just starting on the masting and rigging so this is extremely helpful! Dave B
