Also the two gunports I did.. Can't believe how much hesitation I have had whilst scratch building them.. Still glad I threw the supplied cast ones away..

Thanks tom. Makes sense.. Jeez I had one of those sessions. The possibility for dramas in this hobby seem endless.. I was seriously struggling to add straps to anchor stocks. I was trying to paint strips of aluminium can, just ended up looking a mess.. I remembered from someone's log they used black paper and I happened to have some 140 gsm.. Went much better and everything was looking sweet, then I clear coated and it went all wrong. Mustn't have shaken the can enough and they went all white.. Not the type that seems to go away.. So I managed to clean them up with metho and tried again. Looking okay now.. Managed to get two canon lids hinged and fitted, was a real struggle also. Anyway as someone said. You soon learn that 3 steps forward two back is a good day.. ollie

I made up my culverins, at the end of the barrel they had more of a protrusion than anything, so I filed and started drilling them out with a 0.5 mm bit.. They look alright...Ollie

Thanks guys, it won't be hard to source.. I have a question regarding bitt heads, in instructions they look to sit 90 degrees to cap rail.. I think maybe they should be slightly angled to compensate for curve so.that all stand vertical respective to each other.. Struggling to express this but the picture with my doodles should help.. Thanks ollie

My mamoli beagle.. parts missing kit arrived. I've already eyed off a few parts.. I.like the anchors. Well finished and blackened and same size. The stocks on kit supplied for mermaid seem too big.. Both anchors 40 mm even though kits are not the same scale. Interesting... I actually like the mamoli anchors but don't like the stocks.. Coarse grain and grain seems to run wrong direction.. I scratched some out of walnut..

I would advise a cowling or roll bar so you dont worry so much.. Just make sure its strong enough so doesnt interfere with prop if bumped... i made many mods to mine.. One solid steel bar could suffice.. something like this.. ollie

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
