  1. You guy's are a wealth of knowledge.. Very thankful... Well getting some news in from Cooktown.. Worried about my mates... We are getting a Lot of rain but escaped the brunt this time.. Bit upset about seeing the old pub has lost her roof.. Regards ollie
  2. What Nigel said! And.yes my margin planks boggled me too.. Joggling is pretty easy once you get it happening... To get the curve on margin planks against bulwark try cutting a paper template first then transfer to timber on angle that suits best coverages of plank.. Then cut the internal curve last as Nigel.said.. Ballyhoo is looking hooty hoo.. Real.fine.. Ollie
  3. Thanks guys, we will be fine... So I got my breach ropes done, thanks so much for the advice all 3rd photo shows tackle, I understand one end should be coiled or in my case I'm deciding to wrap between the blocks.. But the other end I.have just put a knot to stop from coming through block.. I feel this isn't right.. Advice appreciated 4th photo shows tackle, I think I should put them on an angle, attached to the next rib along the bulwark.. You may see the holes for eye pin on rear of canon.. More advice that I would love to receive.. Many regards ollie to
  4. Thanks guys,, yeah your right John, coming in around Cooktown.. This one looks like it wants to side swipe the coast.. Here's this mornings latest map. Keeps coming closer to Cairns. We will be fine.. Regards Oliver
  5. Thanks all. Good to know I'm on track.. I just rigged up my blocks I made earlier today, I've spent a lot of hours today with seemingly small amounts of progres. But it's there and lots of re doing and general learning.. Yards were basically completed this morning. I find contradictory pictures and info. I get confused. Like other hobbies of mine it would seem learning to research is key.. Dave I would like to know your technique for soften and defuzz.. P,s did I.mention the shipyard is facing temporary or worse closure to a category 5 cyclone.. Oh it's only 300km/hr winds..never mind that the bar will remain open.. it's all action lately. Regards Oliver
  6. Thanks mate, that helps lots, I just did a dummy run and think I'm.on the right track.. Canon on left is what I think is right.. needs refining.. Will also be adding the blocks and tackle if I can manage it.. I will manage ..
  7. Thanks all I got my top yard done today, a bit fiddly.. I'm rigging my canons, I have made my own blocks.. I am trying to decide whether to have 'recoil ropes'... right term? .. Should they go over 'rear' of canon or just off large rings?? Regards Oliver
  8. Welcome back, I missed your posts, good to hear good news.. Look forward to seeing your new progress
  9. Um actually don't even know how to answer that tom..I'm a bit in the dark. And following somewhat vague plans which is bound to get me in trouble sometimes.. Maybe this picture will show more clearly what I have done.. Regards Oliver
  10. Hi mate, I had 0.2 mm variation in my deck planks. I found that it helped to use the same plank for each run and actually align the butts as they were before being cut, ensures a real tight fit.. My deck wandered a bit despite starting dead centre... You're doing ace and I think like all of us here..we are very critical of our own work.. This does up the standards all round but evokes some accute pain and anxiety within us ... Havnt had a chance to comment lately but Have to say those black Wales look superb.. Really coming along.. It's good to keep momentum isn't it?? I won't mention your marginally mad margarine mess. You must have had a migraine mate.. Ollie
  11. Yeah I've got enough to learn, so I got to keep doable.. I already feel to be in pretty deep with this rigging etc.. So I have one yard almost done.. I've done a great job of it if following the plan is right.. When I look at pictures. The footrope stirrups look a bit longer.. The mast plan is to scale so should be right.. Was a fiddly task... What do you reckon gang.. Does it look the part?? Just the pendants to go on this yard.. Regards Oliver
  12. Thanks guys, thought it would be challenging.. initially I wanted to do.sails... But now I'm actually thinking of doing the main sail only, wrapped up like in my profile picture .. Not sure how it will work. Any help appreciated for this option.. Regards
  13. One question I've been meaning to ask.. If I plan to put sails on, is there any differences I should know about regarding rigging.. Any differences in the way the proceedings go??.. Also adding 15 hrs to tally. Many thanks ollie
  14. Thanks gang, Tom, the.supplied rings need work but come up okay, I have made my own where I needed, found it's not too hard with good cutters.. I have been making most of my eye bolts smaller as they looked too big I thought.. Stock on right.
  15. I am thinking of kit bashing an Endeavour kit as Captain Cook would have sailed her.. As some of you have seen my mermaid 'warm'up kit, what kit will suit me best, knowing that I like to scratch a lot of deck items, whilst being as close to historically accurate as possible..?? And at similar scale to 1:48 I have heard good things about occre kits. Please just provide your opinion and let's not start any debates, please kind regards ollie
  16. Thanks Eamonn, wasn't a cleat but that's great help and cheers Tom. And Bindy, I like your sense of humour Alistair. I did top three bands in paper and bottom is copper as I realised it would need the strength.. Copper was easy to do. Got my.gaff and boom finished today... Yards are on the way.. Regards ollie
  17. Eamm, that's my spoiler mate don't worry the mess exists, I am not a freak :$ did a clear up yesterday. Forgot to show the catheads ropes tied up.. Regards ollie
  18. I feel for you Greg, the horror... I'm not a great fan of cats, I would have cried.. Obviously the cat is loved.. A Cat astrophe .. Hope you don't get too stressed Regards Oliver
  19. Thanks John. No chance of that, next time.. would be a major, getting a bit more relaxed about things as I go. Here's the masts fitted, was tricky getting them plumb and aligned in every way. But pretty happy with them.. Regards ollie
  20. Thanks as always gang.. I have been plodding away at blocks and fiddly Bits, getting a system going to finish them.still no internet and.not much download on the phone.. Here's a few pics to keep you in the loop.. Masts are yet to be.glued. Might have to do them today.. Happy crafts all.. Ollie
  21. Thanks for the great advice and compliments mate, I think I will do that, it worked well on the anchors.. Regards ollie
  22. I have added a cleat to bottom of mast and added some eye pins...currently making boom rest.. I am wondering about the copper straps that go around mast, would I be best painting them black or trying for an aged copper look?? Ollie
