    Hi Mates,

Installed carriages now just need to clean up the ropes. I will leave that for now and move to an other area TBD. Thanks for looking in (:-)

PS: first pic, is self explanatory, but found it easy to position carriage then drill a small hole in deck for installation.

    JanV,

Thanks...these are the ones I used.

Note the drill bit in the envelope, all blocks were drilled a second time to enlarge the holes to allow ropes to go through. I have learned that this is a common practice to do. Not a criticism of Chuck's excellent products.

I like the G-S glue also except it seems to be a bit "stringy". Very nice cannons by the way.

A stupid person's (me) guide for making pulleys, Capt. Steve was nice enough to ask me to share (:-)

My first attempt at using a Proxxon lathe to make pulleys in the early stages looked ok. Then came the part that I had to cut and trim the grooved dowel piece in order to slip the new pulleys into the new blocks I just built; Hmmm no good - they looked weak.

I then noticed that I had a loose cannon wheel lying about that was the same width as my dowel. Eureka, as a solution I then used my Proxxon rotary tool to spin the carriage wheels in order to cut grooves; again weak and inconsistent results.

Then another thought popped in. I could use small deadeyes that are so nicely pre-grooved and then just thin their sides a bit with a rotary tool, and just slip then in; Voilà.

The synapses were responding to absolute frustration with my inability to actually make these silly little monsters; cannibalization seemed to be an approach.

    Regards,

Beautiful project, such a wealth of perfectly executed details.!! As you know you were the catalyst for my efforts at hand building the carriages on mine. I am really enjoying following your build. Also a really impressive ship.

Nice to see that you are back at work. Looking good.

The Connie will be in dry-dock for the next 2 years, as I'm sure you know. I hope to visit her when she returns to her museum. She looked great out for her last cruise.

    Hi Mates,

Continuing onward with the carriage ropes and tackles installation.

After trying to install one completely assembled carriage with ropes attached, I found it to be too cumbersome and a pain in the @#&. That wasn’t going to work very well. Space was so limited and I needed to also, just below the upper blocks attach the hooks for the carriage stops. Too messy hmmm….

So, plan B; I completed all the rope/block assemblies for the14 carriages. Then chose to attach those to the weather deck first.  Made a small hook so basic but so perfect ha ah…

Sliding in the cannons, then attaching the pins to each side of the carriages will be a breeze (I think). I can then adjust the ropes and tackles for a tight fit.

Have not decided how to display the left over rope lengths. The Vasa museum sort of hangs the excess on hooks near the rear of each carriage side. I’m short on length of the carriages, as they had to be shortened (Corel kit weather deck too narrow).

As noted from the just previous post, I wanted to emulate the 1/10th assembly with the use of small wooden pins. Used tooth pics. The results are acceptable, but I find that the scaling is a bit “off” My error, but still achieved the intent. Again thanks for dropping by and the Likes and comments always a pleasure.

    Regards,
