The shrouds will be painted black. The starboard side dead eyes are already painted

All the best for the new year Wooden Boat Builders.

I made a "dock" to hold the hull vertical so measurements can be taken and for the fit-out works. 12mm ply base with 2 batten runners either side of the keel bottom. The bow is held by 2 pcs. of pine raked either side of the bow keel. Holds the hull very firm.

Shortly after I cut my left thumb severely(very annoyed at myself) which has slowed the pace of the build considerably.

The hull has some 3,000 tree nails to date installed and most cut flush to the hull(ready for a final sand).

Started the deck by cutting the access holes - at least I could do that with 1 hand. Been contemplating how to mount the 3 masts onto the keel, as the kit ! does not mention this. Have come up with a mast stand that clips over the keel that I lower down on the bottom of each mast and glue onto the keel. design and pics to follow.

Working with 1 hand is frustrating.

Wale on the starbord side has been completed.
As mentioned earlier I'am not using the kit supplied planks, the wale consists of a 4mm x 1,5mm walnut Strip for the blackstrake and four strips 3mm x 2mm for the wale.
Before constructing the wales I have compared the kit drawings to the AotS, it matches very well.

I have spend some spare time on the Bounty,

All the Frames are installed now, followed by the Transom wing.
I think it will be better to start fairing the hull before moving on to the transom parts to prevent damage as the parts are very fragile.
So, next is to copy the Body lines from the planes and prepare some templates for the sanding party.

Got the counter and the transom planked.  You may notice that I thinned down the outside stern frames considerably before planking the stern.  The first photo shows how thick they were before it was planked.  After the sides of the hull were planked the outside stern frames were strong enough to handle the thinning down.  It makes the model more historically correct.  The inboard side of the stern and counter will not be planked so I wanted to make sure it looked as authentic as possible.  That of course means that I must really clean up the inboard side between the stern frames carefully to prepare it for painting.   I will fill any cracks and sand it smooth and do lots of surface prep.

Now I can have some fun.  Its time to put the fashion pieces on and the wales and fancy trim.  This is the step that will make it really come together.

Ok, sick to death or rope coils. I could probably go on and on and on with them, so I had to draw a line in the sand and stop. I have added the swivel guns (prepared ages ago - May 2012). I have added a photo of the swivel gun provided with the kit as well which is about 200 years out of date I think.

I have actually prepared the flagstaffs for the bow and the stern, but I need some advice on the flags. Each of the masts have a trunnel for flags as well. Do I use them?

Also made the knees(3 sizes) for the channels, which are shown in Marquardt's AOTS.

Each is just over 2.2mm wide which translates to some 130mm wide in real size. I believe they would of been of substantial thickness to transfer any load back to the hull/deck line.
They are a bit rough for now, some final touch-ups to be done when I glue them in place, after tree nails.

I also noted that in the Endeavour replica pictures I have been collecting, there no knees that I can see. Maybe just not showing up ?

And have cut in the cabin window decoration in either side. Glue on after the tree nails are done.

What next ? probably look at the hatches, plenty to do. Trying to mark out where all the hull items go, before tree nailing.

Well, I think I have figured out something what should work.

A close comparison of the Hahn plans by the AotS Body lines of the Bounty pointed out that Hahn has drawn the rear Framework to the overall  size including the Planking. It seems he started to increase the Cant Frames from the bottom of the whale towards the sternpost and keel to meet the rabbet.

So, I need to reduce the width of Frame 29 - 35 plus the transom wings by the plank thickness for a true and nice run of the Planks into the rabbet.
The Pictures already show a modified deadwood, the thickness of the deadwood is reduced to meet the rabbet.

Here we go, making sawdust to see am I right!

Well, due to usual summer activities not much happend in the shipyard since the last update, but now the Bounty is back on the work bench.
I'am still busy with hull fairing and sanding, although the Frames were preshaped it is a lot left to sand.
A few Frames are undersized, don't know why, might be paper distortion from the copys or carelessness from my side. Anyway, got to fix those spots  with adding woodstrips and sanding.

Hopefully it will be done in a few days.....

    Hi all,
the last half Frames are roughly shaped and dry fitted to the hull structure.

Next is to adjust and glue them before moving on to the transom parts.

I wish a happy Easter weekend to all of you!

Whilst the shipyard(me going slow) planking is going on, took a sideline to have a go at making the 2 rear cabin window decorations.
    Three pics below:
    1. hand sketched the Window Deco(mirror image it) and glued onto a tight grain hardwood that I cut ~3mm thick
    2. I used a new scapple blade to trace around the outer and inner lines, mainly so when I used the engraving tool it had a line to cut up to. Did a first run of carving the internal lines. I then glued the Deco to a second layer of slightly thinner hardwood that I have cut the trapezoidal window out(lined the inner edges, recessed for the hatches)
    3. One(RHS) 95% completed Deco and the other - get to it soon I hope.

    Back to planking.

Thank you for all the "likes" and comments.

Hawse timbers... version 4.5 (1 side was replaced once, the other twice).   The hard part (to me) is that lines drawing give no shape to the bow forward of the first cant fram so I'm fumbling with templates and photos.  I think I'm close.  I've filled in most of the low spots and sanded down the highs.  Cherry has this nice feature  that if it ages a bit and darkens, when you sand it the sanded parts become light. This, coupled with a batten and templates gives you a pretty good idea of where one stands in the fairing.

They still need more fairing but I need to hold off a bit.  Frankly, I'm getting tired of the sawdust in the air at the moment.     The reality is, I need to put in the gunport sills and fair those in.  And then the interior.  The deck clamp "knees" (actualy just nubs of wood) need to be worked such to give a smooth sheer to the clamps.  I'll have to hold on the clamps though, until the stern is finished.

Yes, I'm avoiding the stern like the plague.  Hahn doesn't give you a template on the plans for the transoms so I'm sorting this out.  I have the stern framing showing height and width of the timbers, the side showing the location and depth but no top view showing the shape.  Again, much staring at the prints and Hahn's limited build photos.  This seems to be one of those areas that are "up to the builder" to sort out like the quarter galleries.   Speaking of which I'm also sorting out that area as it's not really defined on the prints as to timbers.  However, I'm putting together a plan, which if it works I'll happy dancing for weeks.

So... to the pictures.  The first three show the hawse timbers and cant frames.  None of this will be visible when planked.  The last is kinda' artsy-craftsy looking at the interior so I can get an idea of amount of fairing in there to be done.

As always, feel free to click on any picture to enlarge it to full size.  Oh.. sorry for the sawdust and debris.  I really need to hit this with the shop vac.

Since there is nothing on the tube tonight I went ahead and glued the bulkheads into position.   This was something I wanted to do quickly so I get get a sense of the overall shape of this cutter.   I will start framing the gunports tomorrow.  You will notice the 2nd bulkhead at the bow has no extensions.  They wont be needed because the forward-most port will be framed there.  No warping which is great....straight as an arrow.
