Job well done on your model Pat and my sympathies as well. The maintenance guy at work was doubled on the floor from kidney stones and we had to call an ambulance for him. Later he said it was the most painful experience he ever had.

This way, I'm sending you my best wishes for a good and rapid recovery - get well soon, dear Patrick!
... and I will hope, that Christmas holds definitely something else for you - for example, wood instead of stone - thus, it serves much more for building ships!
All the best,
Mike

Hello Jon I will definitely come along for the ride, I do like this scale although a tad lager than my preferred one of 1:8.
A wonderful subject for a model the deck configuration seems uncannily familiar

Mike, Wow! what a superb job with the deck planking. I would be extremely happy to do such a fine job. I am looking forward to seeing how it looks with the caulking. I wish I had used the same method on my cutter.

Many thanks to Bob (Rafine), Dan, Bill, and Bob (cap`n),
and all the "likes"
for your appreciations and your nice and encouraging comments...
Bob (Rafine),
Thanks, the hull painting session wo`nt be so far away. I`m trying to evaluate if the underwater part should rather be in a brownish copper Color or in brick red, and the overwater hull in black or rather in anthrazit (dark Grey, like charcoal), All Colors in dull surface appeal
Dan,
Thanks for your Input relating to the foil in copper material. I have now, in order to avoid this uncertain Situation (enough or not)
, unrolled the remaining stock on the roll and 99% find it will be enough left, if I avoid to produce much scrap
Bill,
you`re very wellcome aboard the KWdG`s shipyard, I`ll be happy having you supervising the build from Idaho
Bob (cap`n)
thanks for the Information, the foil has to be a certain thickness (withstand poncing without penetrating) , and the gluefilm is a very Special one that holds on "like hell", once applied to the Underground.
I just had bought a small roll of self adhesive Aluminium tape from my regional Aldi-Market, to try it out, but that stuff is unfortunately too thin, and the glue dos`nt suit my requirements

I bought my last roll of aluminum tape at a large hardware store. It is used to seal heating ducts.

Hi everyone
Today I actually started on Magellan's hull. As mentioned before, I intend to fully fitout Magellan's interior accommodation; all four decks of it. How I intend to do this is by allowing each deck to be lifted off so that the interior can be viewed. Talk about a challenge!!! Oh well, if you don't try, nothing would be achieved.
So, without further ado, the photos below show the start of the hull. It may not look like much, but, hopefully it'll turn into one hell of a beauty! A very long way to go, of course...
Wish me luck!
Cheers

Hi everyone
As I don't have any actual hull plans for Majellan's hull I'm building, I'm relying mainly on photos of other similar sized modern luxury yachts on the Internet. Many of these modern motor yachts have very unusual underbodies. In fact, they're far from the graceful and streamlined beauties that you'd expect. Instead, they're quite angular and, dare I say it, ugly underneath (well, to my mind, anyway)!
As a means of overcoming the lack of detailed plans, I decided to do a clay mock-up of what I think the hull could look like, using the examples of Internet photos I've seen. Once I'm happy with what I've come up with, I'll then use the mock-up as a guide to carve the wooden hull.
The clay mock-up can be seen in the photos below. There's still a long way to go before I'm happy with its shape, but it's a start.
Cheers

Hi everyone
Many thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated!
Tonight, I've continued to work on the hull...more sanding, more puttying, more shaping, etc, etc, etc. I hope I've been true to Ben's suggestions about the flare in the bow and the overall underwater's shape. If not, it's not too late to still work on it.
Anyhow, here's the results!
Cheers and thanks

Hi everyone
I'm very grateful for all your comments and Likes. Keep'em coming, because it keeps me going!
Tonight, I've had a go at carving the wooden hull, based upon the clay mock up and advice from Ben and Bill. Here are some photos of the rough job so far. Heaps more sanding, patching and sanding and patching (you know the drill) to go. But at least it's a start.
Hope you're all well and all the best!
Cheers

Thanks Michael! I reckon the hull's not looking too bad either. I can't wait to get back to the boat, once these little buggers are gone.

Ahh, okay, Mike. These things can't/shouldn't be rushed. No doubt, when things are ready, I'm sure she's going to float and sail beautifully.

Omega1234 reacted to michael mott in 28' Ranger-type Yacht by Mark Pearse - FINISHED - 1:12
Good morning Mark, These major decisions are sometimes deeply reflective ones and are often difficult to make, it is in these that we learn the most about what we are doing though it seems to me. The lessons that are solved one way or another are valuable additions for the next project.
The planking and the shape of the hull are looking very nice.

Good morning Patrick....ouch that's gotta hurt. Sounds like you are in good hands, I am sure that you will be able to get back to the shipyard soon enough. the last couple of picks highlight the hull shape well.
