  1. Hi David i just saw that you have a new build in progress - you mind if i follow? - great start
  2. did some rigging today, today feeding lines from the knight-head through single blocks to the dolphin striker, not much achieved but enjoyable the spiritsail lower yard is temporary pinned to ensure i don't do anything stupid in the months ahead getting a little confused though how the spirit top saill is going to be fitted, imo the cloth would be snagged by the lines passing through the dolphin striker towards the top of the Jib anyway - i am sure i will find an answer
  3. quite a few logs on here - but i at present i am using the book http://www.amazon.co.uk/HMS-Victory-Construction-Career-Restoration/dp/1840675322 by Alan McGowan- hope to follow you -
  4. Nigel - it was your log for me to read this afternoon - my head is now buzzing with all the ideas that i have - stunning work my friend
  5. you did a fantastic job on this build - just reread your log from start to finish
  6. still finding my feet again as i well and truly get back into the build made the spiritsail yard and placed my first line onto the build, hopefully it will still be there tomorrow unless i am told the error of my ways and do it all over again going by the plans (well that was a stooooopid mistake I drilled the holes but the line fouls the lower cheek so a few holes to patch up - i dont see any other way around it
  7. ]Good evening everyone - briiliant day, but as i have friends who are Australian i will not mention the test match spent most of the day experimenting - on fitting blocks and doing strops - so although not much progress done - it is getting me into a routine of procedures tomorrow hope to progress the rest of the foremast - but tonight she looks like this - sorry about the phots
  8. Arthur -they are different materials - as i was experimenting with what looked best - the brass at the back looks ( to me anyway over scale) so i will use the thin wire at the from - the wire itself came from the tie wraps that you use in the garden - intentions are to paint them black and they are not tapered, lol im not that clever
  9. Not much of an update, but decided to try and replicate the way the blocks are secured onto the lower top, these will be painted - depending on wether i change my mind and try some other way over night
  10. nice to catch up on your log mark, absolutely fantastic progress
  11. http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/B_S_M/Blocks.html just looking to see the best way to create the blocks that would pass through the mast tops
  12. thank you very much Arthur that is again exactly what i was looking for
  13. Hi Sherry - long time no talk, just had to re read your log from the start, what wonderful progress you have made -
  14. Thank you Arthur, on Victory they sit in a different position - away from the brace like in the photo posted by Jerry above
  15. ty Harvey - but lol i have not posted a picture yet
  16. ty Jerry - oh by the way nice to say hello to you again after all this time - hope you and family are well i found this photo
  17. Jerry i have found the answer on the Real ship the rope that goes around the block is passed through the platform and a peg prevents in from dropping back out
  18. ty Jerry you understood the question - however did you drill into the step above or just into the platform - i have found that drilling those six holes i have missed the step and have holes in the platform - which can been seen from above
  19. good afternoon everyone ?, placing the blocks under the lower tops on the fore mast, what/how were they secured, were they arrarnged to convienietly fit into the step on top or were extra wooden blocks used to help secure them from being ripped out
  20. Very nice - i like the way you have completed the gun port lids - perhaps that's the way i should have done mine I look forward to watching you progress from now on, at this rate you will over take me in a couple of months
  21. Dennis - just catching up with some of the logs I used to follow, I missed most of the hull build, are you enjoying the kit?
  22. Gil - good morning - I hope you are well, my build has now reached page three of you log, its great to be back and taking her forward towards completion
  23. Good evening everyone Thank-you for the replies well after a good hours dusting her off - i have reminded my self of all the bits that need to be done/ to be finished or re worked - lol the gun-port lids are not on any of them - im sure they were part of the reason for her being put to one side the three masts continue to be worked on - i have still to properly define which parts are black, or yellow -
  24. After eight months away - the cobwebs have been blown off the Vic and new sits back on the WIP bench - progressed a few other plastic model projects but nothing was finished (my life story), but this this project was always at the back of my mind, just lost the mojo anyway back to the masting - and placing the deadeyes in their representative strops on the fore mast lower top hope now to catch up on some of the fantastic build logs here
