Kevin got a reaction from SawdustDave in HMS VICTORY by Kevin - FINISHED - Caldercraft - 1/72
stbd side gunports
All lids removed apart from two - they dont want to play my game, some de bonder needed, or bigger gun-port removal tool
old lanyard pins removed, by drilling out
About 1/3 of new lanyards made,
1.5mm holes drilled into hull to take the uplift tubes
will touch up paintwork before i start to put it all back
good to be back

Kevin reacted to NMBROOK in Vintage Billings Norske Love
Just some pics of the plans and instructions included with the model.Note date on drawing,not quite as old as me,but older than my wife .The instructions actually include more information than some of the current ones from Billings!I will take pics of the model at the weekend as I have several bags of loose items to wade through.
Kind Regards
Nigel

Kevin reacted to Blue Ensign in Vintage Billings Norske Love
Hi Nigel, here's a few pics of my old Norske Love, she's been uncased for many years, and has to have a periodic dusting, but I'm still very fond of the old girl as she marks my first foray into wooden kit building
Hope you find them of use

Viewing this thread one can really get a feel for what it must have been like to be a crew member during those times.
I hope you consider adding at least one gun crew to this masterpiece.
Thanks

well the Victory is back on the work bench, the available work space is going to be adequate for hull work - not so sure about height wise- i will worry about that another day
i am starting to catch up on some of the logs i used to follow, but have a nice long weekend ahead, Thursday night to tuesday

What a fantastic workshop, you've done a great job with that, and the Victory looks great in the dry dock.

Thank you, Nenad and Rich;
I'm pretty much done with the frame ends on the forecastle deck; right now I'm trying to fit the two heads into place underneath the main rail... Will probably fill the gap with more "ironwork"..

Forecastle deck is fixed.... (after 3? months...) I will not do nibbing here, I installed covering margin planks. I think I found a happy medium at where the forcastle deck rests ....
Anyhow, I'm done with this step; just need the iron frames on the inside of this area...

Thanks Geoff, David, and Nenad, for the nice comments;
And now, back to my little "side station"; - the top of a small bookcase commandeered to manufacture the bulwark paneling... I'm not so sure why this is such a scary thing for me; I just need to make the *&$# things, affix them to the ship, and move on...
Yes; I know it's a boring post, but it helps me move on with a little bit of accountability...
Cheers!

...This seemed to work OK, but the ring was much too big when looking at the bulwark pictures you posted earlier, so my next attempt was wrapping a stanchion around a .65 mm drill bit, only slightly wider than the stanchion diameter. After flattening, I wrapped a piece of 26 gauge wire around the same 1/16" drill bit used previously, cut the ring free, and threaded it through the first ring. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out; now we'll see if I can install it on the ship without destroying the assembly..
Thank you, Nenad, for your inspiration and encouragement on this detail I was planning to omit!
