Thanks for all the interest and the "likes". Meanwhile,
    Painting continues…

While I was getting ready to paint these parts, I decided to also prep and paint some parts for the next step.

    The Coal Bin components:

    And the Smoke Stack components:

And here are all these parts after painting:

Here is a shot of the Smoke Stack components temporarily joined together to show the impact of the different colours together:

At this stage, the Coal Bin parts are assembled, including the wooden step and its support brackets, the grab bars and the coal bin braces.

The grab bars and braces, as well as the step support brackets are all attached using 00-90 nuts and bolts, which proved to be quite tricky. Fortunately, my experience building my Pocher car model recently meant that I had both some experience with this type of fastening, and also some tools to make the job a little easier. Here’s a close-up of the inside of the fastenings. Getting access to these became progressively more difficult as each part was added.

With that step complete, the Coal Bin is set aside for later and preparation and painting of the next batch of parts continues, this time focusing on the Copper elements including the Expansion Tanks (large and small), the Headlight, the Hand Lamps, and some water return pipes, all shown here prior to any preparation.

Also in this batch will be some “leather” components – the Seat, the Whip, and some hose retaining straps – as well as a couple more components to be painted black, including the Coal Door, the Spark Arrestor (brass photo etch) and the Boiler Shield (engraved).

I’ll be back with the painted parts in a few days…..

Thank you, the trolling im over that, but recent discussions in my household, all three of us, and one of them is the dog, have agreed that the Amerigo needs to be completed, with or without sails

    good afternoon everyone
futtock shrouds were done today which then meant i could get on with the rest of the main mast
upper spreaders done made yesterday , have now been fitted

surprising is the fact the the main mast is very similar size wise to the foremast

    Post Sixteen

     Dressing the bulwarks
This is the point where some paint is laid down on the Inner bulwarks, and I need to decide the shade of ochre to use.
I will be hand painting the model, I prefer the look to the spray paint effect, and I simply can’t be bothered with all that masking.

The cabin area will also be painted a shade of white, altho’ the Rudder head cover and bench will be varnished.

Initially I couldn’t see any reason why the spirketting and deck clamp patterns should not be fixed before painting the Bulwarks but looking ahead the spirketting is fitted atop the etched deck pattern.
As I’m not using the deck pattern it seems I need to fit at least the margin plank at this point.

Out of curiosity I thought I would fit the etched deck just to see how it looked.

It took a fair bit of sanding of the edges to get a flat lie, but I have to admit it looks ok.
Chris is to be complimented on the flexibility and strength of the deck.

It took me a while to figure out what the series of holes were running along the deck edges – doh they’re scupper positions.🤔
This will also have implications for the spirketting on which scuppers generally impact, so, I’m glad I spotted it now.

At the rear there is a rather smart chequer pattern flooring in shades of brown and beige. Chuck has something similar on his Winchelsea build.
This sort of floor pattern was very popular in Georgian England, usually in Black and White and can be seen in the Great cabin of HMS Victory where it is represented by painted sailcloth.
I recall that we had something similar in our kitchen in the 1950’s but we used lino rather than sailcloth.😃

The kit coverings remind me of the parquet flooring evident in French ships, but I’ve not previously seen it in British ships.

There was a feeling against anything smacking of Frenchification in the British Navy during the 18th century, but
many officers succumbed (initially unofficially) to the fashion of the Epaulettes worn on the uniform shoulder as the century progressed. The Navy regulation didn’t cover such fancy additions until 1795.
Even Nelson who originally sneered at such adornments eventually succumbed to this growing fashion.

    Still, I digress.

Not sure I will use it on the model, nice as it looks.

No need to rush to decision and I may change my mind yet, the muted shades also have appeal.

Tomorrow I will be making margin planks.

I feel you man. The you have to deal with the difference between the two different directions the ropes can be twisted when made...and which side of the ship each kind goes on...and if you are making your own ropes...it gives me a headache.

sometimes i wonder if i have ever learnt anything in model boat building
yes i have only  built kits, and as a result i used in most cases what is supplied, but today i noticed that with the revised build details the call out for the Amerigo is 16 sizes of rope,  8 cordage and the same in steel, but what i didnt know was that even the shrouds are different diameters
