    Good evening everyone

now that i have two life boats that look about the same, i have started to rig them to the boat, intentions are to get them completed by tomorrow night, and move on to other items on the boat deck

    two questions are bugging me

the shrouds on these trawlers were they wire or rope?

when a rope or wire comes of a drum to a rig, in this case a davit, does the leading edge of the line come off the top of the drum or from the bottom of the drum

Good evening everyone from a very damp Somerset

take two on the life boats,

i wasnt happy with the grab ropes, so i redid them, where i had originally threaded the ropes through the hull i filled them with eyelets,

    wasnt happy with this

i drilled out the holes to remove the black thread, which had been secured with C/A

used 1mm thread with a grime wash

    MK1 and MK2

need to tone down the weathering a bit, or use a different wash, i am still playing around with the covers

after letting the paint dry overnight, i then masked around the boat to get a cutting line

after trimming the cover fell away from the hull and allowed me to remove the bands and cling film

i have cut a few tabs from the off cuts to make a few securing positions

next will be to paint it again to cover the cut line and put a different colour on the tabs, then do it all over again on the other boat

    Good evening everyone

now that i have a system that works in getting a decent fit of the superstructure to the hull, i can continue and build the boat deck up, a lot less chance of damaging anything now

the davits were made up a while ago, i just a white primer, as i wanted the flat white finish, today, they had a Flory grime wash over them and fitted to the deck, bollards, and handles, with the ropes and ropes are still to be sorted, but im happy with what has been done today,

first day of retirement, and i have brought the hull back into the mancave

although not the way the instructions show, i have devised a system which allows the superstructure to be removed, using screws that are pretty well hidden. then is for any reason, the hull goes to someone else they can sort it out, my reasoning for it is that i wanted a tight seal not just a unit that lifted off, leaving gaps in places

i can now start work on the foredeck

thinking ahead i want rusty looking hull, im not quite sure how i am going to go about it, its not exactly a small unit

    Good morning everyone

apart from the handling ropes the life boats are finished,

i put everything in place according to the plans, and secured in position, however the forward drum reels are set  to far aft to be of use, it looked tight even on the plans, after looking at other builds and seeing the same issue they got moved about 1cm to make them more usable, i may have to move the after hatches now as they might not have enough room

the middle picture drum reels are in place according to the plans, but in reality are to far aft to be of use

reels after being moved, dont quite know what to do about the stain damage on the wood

    Superstructure handrails and stations

    good evening everyone

not made much progress recently, the williness to work on her is there, just not finding the time to put in on her

however last weekend i managed to put the handrails on, made from single head statnions  and the wire provided within the kit, i put them into position then used a bit of c/a to stop them moving, removed them and used a white primer on them, and put back into position

presently making up the guard rails

not having the bath tub size hull in the cave is certainly an advantage, not because of the space, but i am forever looking at it thinking, what the hell am i going to do with it
    anyway onwards i go

    Funnel area
the choice of funnel colours is the admirals, and not to represent any port or company, just so happens to be the colours being used

i made up the steam whistle pipework and the after pipe ( i believe to be a vent), and the made some bases for the cowls so that they can be moved to change direction
the companionway has now got a pair of doors, but still to be finished and the turnbuckle for the after mast have been cleaned up and temp placed into position

love the paint work, and yet another fine kit built, and a different aspect of aviation history behind her as well
