Thanks Hamilton for your continuing interest.

I have now built the stove, but will not mount it until sometime later in construction to avoid damage to this very delicate little piece. Since the stove is painted, I chose to use the basic kit pieces to assemble it. I did a number of the details with non-kit items. For example, I used very thin styrene to do the various doors, a couple of very small bulls eyes I had for the pulleys and some tiny (40 links per inch) chain to connect the pulleys. Doing this piece almost convinced me that my aging eyes and hands need to work in larger scales. Still very enjoyable, but getting very difficult.

Next, I will start to mount and rig the first few guns.

A busy few days have resulted in my first work at the fore end of the ship. The items made and added are the hawse holes (inner end), the bolsters and bucklers, the manger, a scuttle, the bowsprit bitts and the fore riding bitts.

I decided to do the inner part of the hawse holes to allow me to do the other interior work at the bow. I won't do the outer part until I'm ready to do the exterior bow work, such as the knees and head work. The bolsters above and below the hawse holes were cut and shaped from boxwood sheet, using the kit parts as rough templates. The bucklers were cut to fit from boxwood strip.

The manger boards and supports were made from boxwood strip and shaped to fit the bulwark contours.

I made the scuttle coaming from boxwood  strip and the grating from the laser cut kit part, as I had with the various hatches previously made. The fore riding bitts were made from boxwood with a piece of pear for the face of the crosspiece. Ringbolts were added to the standards. The bowsprit bitts were done with boxwood strip. In order to do the the bowsprit bitts, I cut a piece to represent the forecastle deck beam to which they are fitted and also cut a piece of dowel to represent the bowsprit. The last two photos show these fitted in place temporarily.

All of the boxwood parts were finished with Wipe-on Poly. The bitts were pinned and glued to the deck.

Time to start making guns. After searching around for barrels to replace the kit castings, I could find none that closely matched the sizes needed. As a result, I had two choices: use the castings or make my own. In this case, I chose to try to use the castings. After a lot of filing, drilling out the bore and adding the rings for the breeching rope to the button, the barrels looked acceptable to my eye. They were then painted black.

Next came the question of the carriages. This time, I decided not to use the kit parts, but to use the laser cut pear carriage kits from the Lumberyard. Here again, because of the odd scale of the kit (1:76.8), finding a size match was a bit of trial and error. I ended up using their 1:64 6 lb carriages. These still required some modification to allow the barrels to fit. After assembly and finish with Wipe-on Poly, I added the eyebolts, ringbolts and the quoin handles (these were done with the smallest brass belaying pins that I had on hand). The bolt heads on the carriages were done with a fine tip marker. The barrels were then glued in place and the cap squares added using black painted tape ( another concession to the very small size of these pieces).

I'm going to rig these guns with blocks and rigging line from Chuck. Sizes are again the issue and I'm now awaiting my second order from Chuck to pick what I want to use.

I bought the flags from Model Expo. I chose those particular for two reasons:
    1) They matched up to the year listed for the AVS 1768.
    2) Mostly because Peter Jaquith used the same flags for his AVS build, and I trust his research.

The Model Expo flags are nice, they are available in 3 sizes and come in a cloth sheet that covers the full range of history for the American flag. Each version has its applicable years listed alongside. There was no need for fray-check, since they are made from some type of laminated cloth, but were a bit stiff to form curves and ripples. I attached them by clamping a section of the halyard under tension and horizontal with a knot at the two corner points for the flag. I then applied a tiny bead of gel CA along the edge of the flag and touched it to the halyard, then left it alone to cure. So far its held, but I haven't tested the strength in gale force winds.

As far as wind direction goes... there can be lots of momentary eddies in wind where they flap in different directions  what are the odds that I captured her in that rare moment! its ripleys I tell ya!

I think I may be approaching the "home stretch". All the sails are hung and filled with wind to the best of my abilities and the colors are aloft.
Now is time for coils and more coils, what a messy crew leaving all the lines everywhere!

I stiffened and shaped all the sails with dilluted white glue. I attached the flags to the halyards with a tiny bead of CA.

I think all thats left to do are the coils, installing the swivel guns and any final clean-up and touch-ups.

I finally got my sailmaker to complate the topsail. I must say, anyone who has done sails for a full square rigged ship, my hats off to you!
I'm overall happy with the results, but it was certainly challenging.
I shaped the sail, then stiched it to the topsail yard and then loosly rigged it to the spreader yard.
I then hung this assembly with the topsail yard halyard and attached the yard parrels.
    Next the spreader yard jeers.
Then I did the sheets, clewlines, and lifts.
I then added two buntlines which I cleated at the spare shroud cleats #3.
Finally I did the Braces for both yards.

I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, just 3 foresails, rope coils, swivels and final clean/touchup.

Well, I've completed the cannon rigging and working on getting all the spars fabricated.

I now need to get the sailmaker (wife) involved, as I plan to include sails and hope to be able to lash the mainsail to the hoops before they are installed over the mast.

For the Bowsprit, Jibboom, and Mainmast I used the "drill spin and sand" method.

I tried making a bowsprit with a trimming plane, but only managed to create scrap, so for now I havent had much luck with the planer.

I'm not quite sure how I'll taper both ends of the spreader and topsail yards, maybe just by hand (planers bad news for me right now  ) any suggestions? Probably just by hand.

Here is my first fully rigged cannon. Sorry about the fuzzy pics, I'll start using a regular camera or better phone camera.
The crew says the Captain is a real pain in the a**, he likes the lines coiled down neat as if for an Admirals inspection...ARR!
I replaced the 5/32 blocks with smaller 1/8 blocks based upon previous logs info and feedback.

Working on finishing up the deck furniture. Those scary dark rigging clouds are looming on the horizon
Installed the timberheads and decided to keep them with a natural finish. Fabricated the Bowsprit but still need finishing and details, just placed loose. Tried to do it the "planer/octagon" method and created scrap, had better luck with the drill motor and sandpaper. (would still like to achieve plabner skills, prob need better planer than $10 stanley trimming plane?) Catheads installed/Painted Swivel posts installed, I opted for a pair on the quarter deck instead of between the shrouds, plus provides a bit more firepower toward the stern area. Stairs were a pain in the butt, managed it but spiked my BP  , (next time make a fixture). Working on the cannons. The laser cut trucks end up a bit small when made true round, so I used the large ones as the small and fabricated large trucks. Next up, blackening metal for all the various ringbolts, cleats etc. Question regarding cannon rigging.
There is an eyebolt and a ringbolt on each side of the carriage. I know the size to use for the ringbolt, but what about the eyebolt? Large 3/32 or small 1/16 dia provided? It is where the hook on the block attaches.

For no particular reason, I decided to do the rudder next. I used the kit rudder piece, which was shaped, painted and coppered. I added three ringbolts ( which don't show up on my photos at all). The pintles and gudgeons are simplified as a concession to scale and done with copper tape, eyebolts and wire. The chains are attached to one of the ringbolts. I used a smaller chain than that provided in the kit, which I had on hand.

This is my second go around with this ship.  The first one was the very first ship I did.  I plan on doing all the painting and rigging on this one, unlike my first one.  I already painted the bottom part of the hull.  I was happy to get a pretty straight line.  I am using the Testor paints on this one since I already had the colors from my first one.  I am also curious to see how different the enamel is compared to the acrylic.  Since the weather is finally getting better, I am going to go visit the maritime museum in Manitowoc, WI again so I can really study and take pictures of the model ships they have.  It is a wonderful museum, and it was there that I decided I wanted to build model ships.  Get ready for a lot of questions when I get to the upper part of this ship.  That is where I start going down hill on these ships.  I really want to get this down so I can start my big Revell USS Constitution that Eric got me for Christmas.  I truly appreciate any help I can get.

The starboard gallery is now done. While not exactly the same as the port side, I think it's pretty close. Prior to attaching the port side pieces, I had used them as templates to lay out the corresponding starboard pieces. Because of the almost inevitable small differences in hull shape etc., the parts still required fitting, but all went relatively smoothly. Even the lower finishing, which was still the trickiest part, was a lot easier the second time around.

I'm still debating with myself over what to do next.

Looking good. You may also want to install some back stops where the windows are, its in one of the practicums, just remember the frames will be flush after planking. I deviated here from plans and design and decided to have my window frames protrude above the planking, with the edges rounded.
Don't sweat the cabin framing too much, if the windows are held correctly. After the planking it will all look clean. When planking the transom, keep in mind your plank count and where the widths will end up in relation the the window frames, plus the planks have a curve following the counter and poopdeck curves.
