  1. well,... all of the yards and masts have had their preliminary blocks and ropes attached. On to the next stage now with the wonderful glorious magnificent stupendous reatlines to look forward too. Will add the masts tomorrow.....not long ago this build was in serious danger of imminent destruction such was the way things were progressing.....now I don't think the old girls looks to bad.
  2. Tony....post some pics and see if anyone can help.....even if it is an embarrassing total disaster no one will give a monkeys but will see if there is a workaround.
  3. Hi Tony.....we have all had disasters over the years......don't let it put you off.....my current build came so close to being pulped for various reasons. Keep going and it is never a waste of time even if you scrap the current build you are on because you will have learned from it. Practice on it even if you never display it, you will eventually turn out good stuff.
  4. some of the yards completed.....corels blocks are not that good, but I am working with them. I roll them between my finger and thumb to knock any loose bits of wood from them and re drill some of the holes. And just an aerial view of the ship. Masts have not been fixed.
  5. jump straight in Nazir......you can pick tools up as and when you need them......I am a why cant I do it rather than can I do it bloke...….go for it is my advice.
  6. Main yard now completed ….am I beginning to enjoy this rigging business?....been inside for too long.
  7. cheers Old...….rigging is one of those things that can enhance or ruin what you have done before as you know, and it is not so easily hidden.....but I grit my remaining teeth and carry on ...
  8. all three masts now completed and fitted with their respective blocks etc. and the main yard is now underway.
  9. Main mast fitted with all its blocks and deadeyes......Victory in the background keeping an eye on things.....My friend Keith was quartermaster on board Victory till he left the navy a few years back
  10. I did follow that for a while.....it looked fantastic.
  11. jump in Bill.....it is not without its problems being a corel kit but it is rather beautiful
  12. hey there old friend.....I have just brushed the dust from Greyhound....hope all is ok....
  13. main mast furniture slowly being added......the only trouble is I have just found a glenfarclas single malt that needs some attention...
  14. all well over here cheers, and I trust and hope all is ok at your end.....sometimes I just look at the rigging and just think why do I put myself through this......then I go out and buy another ship to complete.....utter madness......I may do like albert finney did in the film network and stick my head out of the window tonight and shout....."I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" ...it may catch on.
  15. mast tops dead eyes in place using aforementioned method.
  16. hey Hamilton....long time no see.....hope you are keeping well......Bellona is now 7 years in the making.....Greyhound took about 10 months but my corel Victory about ten years.....
  17. foremast dead eyes using my solution in previous post.....seems to have worked fine.
  18. well... corels cast collars for the dead eyes mounted on the masts are useless(first pic)….they just keep snapping ….so my solution is a piece of black rope secured around the dead eye with just enough rope to poke through the mast and a brass eyelet poked through the opposite direction and glued in place. The eyelets will be blackened.....job sorted....just need 32 of them. Corels fittings are sometimes so bad they are not worth including in the kit.
  19. well this is the most rigging I have done in quite some time
  20. This model is on my build list....I have a fascination with Franklin’s mission to find the north west passage and the disaster that ensued....your build is looking good and don’t get to hung up over mistakes, we all make them, it is the only way we learn.....show me a man who has never made a mistake and I will show you a man who has never lived....keep up the good work.
  21. Just thought I’d let you know of an error in the placing of the pillars near the binnacle and under the poop deck for anyone doing corels Bellona. The first pic is where I had them originally and the second pic is the correct positioning with one single pillar in front of the binnacle and the other two further under the poop deck.
  22. I have just remembered why I hate rigging....well not all rigging, some rigging is easier to hate than others. Ah well ,...keep calm and carry on.
  23. a couple of the yards have been given some ropework...….this could take some time.....
  24. well after several false starts ….some main mast horse stirrups to start things off...….I have spliced the rope to form the loop and used a tiny drop of glue to hold in place.
