And finally, finally, I didn't like the stand much. It was too low and so now we have the dogfight from the ceiling !!

Thanks for the kind words
I like the idea of fully loading one boat on the "show side" of the model partially lowered.
Without a centerboard those boats must have made a lot of leeway in a wind!

I had a small dilemma with the pump just aft of the main mast. The MS plans show a pump pivot secured to the main mast. (See boom rest photo above). The plans from New Bedford has a wooden pivot post in the center of the pump lever.
I decided on the later. 3/32 square pivot post, notched to accept a 1/16 square lever sanded round and tapered. I used some split rings I had for the lever straps. I cut them down until they fit fairly snug over the lever with a piece of 24 gauge annealed steel wire hooked to the ring for the pump spear. Wow, those pumps are tiny!

Spring and summer is a slow shipbuilding season for me as my other interest, baseball umpire, take up a good portion of my free time. Bad weather has kept me off the baseball fields, and added some time in the shipyard.
Main shrouds rigged. A few loose ends still to be cut off on the starboard side.
Grid made from a copy of the plans, and taped to a thin plastic sheet for some stability. Now ready for ratlines. maybe I can get them done before the Northeast joint clubs show in 2 weeks.

Some advice please viewers.
The undercarriage on this plane was formed like a forth wing. On the model it is made of ribs like a wing and thin covered with very thin sheet metal.
In view of the fact that I am half covering this model should I have cover this as well or do it all as per the pictures on the box ?

The top wing is installed - what a fight that was trying to line up with the spars and glue them - it is covered, rigged and painted.
Next step is the undercarriage

I've cut the same piece three times and it's STILL too short .

Worked on getting through the stern framing today between watching games of soccer. Got the sills and lentils sanded down. For sanding the exterior I used a DeWalt finishing sander. That is the best purchase I have ever made for building the Syren. It has saved me endless time in all the sanding of the gun ports. For the interior, the finishing sander will not fit, so I used a small pencil-like vibrating sander tool I picked up a while back when making the whale boats for the Kate Cory. That did the trick in no time at all. I then cut some spare sheet wood to fill in the two outboard gaps in the stern framing and then sanded the stern sides to fair against the future plank lines. Nothing broke, so I must be doing something right! :-)

The trick was to soak them first and then put them on and work around the bend very slowly. The result, 18 capped ribs and no breakages !

Got the sills and lintels in place.... now to the VERY gentle job of sanding and shaping the stern. I have already cracked the frames a couple of times. Slow going...

More progress this week between classes and grading papers. I have started to work on the stern. Yep - those little ribs are quite fragile, particularly where they have been inscribed with the laser cutter... so they tend to bend then break away from those marks. Cyanoacrylate to the rescue. I'm going to let this set overnight before continuing the stern framing.
