Great work.
But the way you attach the anchors is quite unusual.
Normally these are attached to the channels of the fore mast.Yes sir, I'm going of the kit's plans and their location. It is odd, as my NS Mercedes build, they're set back a bit and not on the stern post, etc...

Don't let the fact that you've never scratch built anything hold you back. At some time or other none of us had never scratch built anything. Just to give you an idea of what can be done, the photo below is of my first ever model - a scratch build of the island trader 'Tautunu'.
You first job is to find plans - preferably of the actual ships, otherwise of similar ships, so that you can get the hull lines and some details of the structures. Next come photos; as many as you can find. These will give you a visual impression of what you're building. When it comes to details of the ship, photographs of similar equipment or fittings on a ship of the period can be of immense help.
The idea is to 'give it a go'. You'll never know just what you can achieve until you try.
And of course you have the vast resources of this forum to help you along the way with advice, instructions and information.

Hey John, that was my exact second thought of doing one from scratch, would be fulfilling for sure...That is a very nice build!!

Thanks Kevin, have you done 'card modelling' before?

I think you'll be struggling to find a kit resembling either of these ships, Robert. Have you considered having a go at a scratch build?
John
Thanks John, I've never scratch built anything yet, I feel this will be a huge undertaking, which I wouldn't know where to start. Thanks.

The whole process was slightly over 2000 hrs. The display case is 44" W x 18" D x 35" H. I've used clear Plexiglass panels instead of glass, that would have been too heavy.
A couple more finishing touches yet to do, like strip lighting and a plaque or 2 describing her.
Thanks for the comment!!

Sonny, another quick question…from the Photo instruction #95, part #139, did you have to make your own or was this a specific supplied part? My kit doesn’t seem to have this part, as in the photo, the middle of this part has a hole in it. Written instructions do not indicate to use a brass wire to make up this part. Also my kit came with wooden belaying pins whereas the instructions mention it to be metal pins.
Other observations, you have applied copper strips to the hull, my kit did not come with copper.

Great build! Love the progress. Quick question, I noticed you have a finished base and stand for the ship. Was this something you purchased as extra?

I might have used a 1/4" bit, then a pretty sharp carving knife to finish off the corners.

Yes it's very well worth the patience, thanks Mark....also it's not too bad this morning, only -3 C should be expecting snow today, fun stuff, especially getting out there on the driveway with the quad and the plow, can't get any better than that!!

I simply applied a coat of clear varathane, it does make it look a little darker eh?
