Gluing the mast to the deck

Recommended Posts

I always glue them and it has never been a problem. I carefully check to make sure they are straight and use a jig to hold in place if necessary.I find things are much more secure and stronger that way, and have less chance of uneven rigging tension pulling them out of alignment.

I use 5 minute epoxy to give myself time to get everything aligned properly.

I hope you're right  :) :) . This is exactly what I was planning to do with the masts on my current and 1st build. I've never rigged anything before, not having the mast fixed would make things even more complicated.

Iv'e always used a small amount of PVA wood glue in the mast hole, this gives about 10 minutes or so to make sure the mast is perfectly aligned, then leave it overnight to set properly, never had a problem doing it this way but then that's just me!

Thank you friends for all your answers

i did it with "Carpenters glue"

p.s thanks a lot to "dee_dee" your message (If you glue the mast into the mast step, you have only one chance to get it perfectly straight.  For that reason, many builders prefer not to glue the mast into the mast step, instead the mast is held in place by the rigging.)

made me think and when im thinking only good stuff raising up ;)  ;)  ;)

so.. i took some pics from my process and i hope to get a free time to make a nice guide with pics about how to install the masts perfectly straight !!!!
