hmmmmmm......so what are you doing.........'Bash Masterson'...........got a little something you wanna add to the structures?  in seeing your first set of pictures,  I would have cautioned you about making sure that both structures were even with each other......the beams looked a bit off.   but, seeing the second set of pictures...I don't see it.    just another example of the camera seeing more than the human eye is willing to admit.   have you done any sanding,  so the roof will sit flush?   I would do a real light sanding.........keeping with the arch,  so that when the roof is in place,   it will sit level to the arch........no gaps.    it looks super...........this is really going to make the wheel/tiller assembly,  the center point of detail..........but you want to make sure that the roof is going to sit flush and even on the structures.  your really moving along..........now that your home...........bet it feels great

Hi Popeye, yes, it is real decieving.  I think one thing that made it look real "off" is that both structures are off center and the galley side is larger than the head and storage section.  It seems high in the back and low in the front and all off kilter in the middle.  Once the beams are added between the two it starts to even out, and then I added some curvature on the beams to compensate the arch.  It all evened out and the roof fit the curve almost perfectly.  It also seemed to add the right pitch to conform with the lines of the ship.   I don't know.....go figure????  It worked.  Yes, things are moving along.  I'm trying to tke advantage of a little winter weather here and get some ship work done.  Tomorrow it's supposed to get down to 35 degrees.  That's cold and very early for us here in Texas!  Brrrrrrr!

Hi Piet, glad you like.  I think it might be time to come back to Florida....getting cold here.....can'r remember why we came back so soon....maybe the Keys are in our future soon....I actually pulled that blue color from some other models I saw of the whalers when in Mystic.  Kinda ugly....but does stand out....

Wow Augies right about warp speed.  I blinked and missed half the build...and the poop deck jokes.   All well she looks great!  Seem's like I remember this being a ship no one ever finished.  The rate your going she'll be an inspiration to those that haven't.

Hi Daniel, welcome back....haven't heard from you in a while.  Yes, it is moving along rather smoothly right now.  I'm glad to be back in the shipyard.  I can see where this ship could go unfinished, there is a lot to it.  Not as much as some of the older men of war or the likes of the Wasa or Victory by any means, but enough that could discourage someone.....I find it quite a challenge, and since this is my first attempt at wood....most enjoyable.  I would welcome someone else building this besides me.

Thanks John.  I will probably pop in and out periodically.  I have full time work and full time school and two kids so time get's limited.  It's nice to take a break for a second every now and again and enjoy some great builds.

Thanks Augie.....for the confidence.....I have some ideas in mind for building it.  I have photos of the real thing, and I really studied it while I was in Mystic.  The instructions and plans are pretty vague.  My biggest problem will be figuring out the wood strips to keep the proper scale so the details look good.  It hopefully will turn out to be a good addition to the Hurricane House.  I need to build a ladder and rail for the roof of the Hurricane House first.  Admiral duty took precedence today.  Not sure if I'll get anything done tonight or not, we might go get some good Mexican Food tonight so being fat, dumb and happy and after a couple of good Dos Equis, I might not get to the shipyard......tomorrow is another day.....

I have a brother-in-law who lives in Plano, Texas........my god......you folks are looking at a freeze warning tonight!  when I was younger,  we'd see snow by now........now-a-days it's not unusual to see staying snow around December or January!    this year,  I think it's going to be different....we might see it  before Thanksgiving.   there has already been a snow belt,  that reached all the way down to Georgia,  but never came up to us.

 

you did a sweet job there!  as you fit out the deck,  it's going to enhance it all the more..........it will be interesting to see where you go next

Hi Popeye, yes, freeze here tonight....I thought I left this stuff up north.   This is way too early for snow and freezing weather here.  Plano is a suburb of Dallas.  My ex brother in law used to live there before moving farther north to Lewisville.  Dallas gets way too cold for me.  I'm from 300 miles south of Houston near Corpus Christi.  Much better weather there.  I think it's time to go to the Keys.....came home too soon.  The deck is starting to finish off nicely.  I'm pleased.  Off to the skylight after my ladder.  Might take some time to build it....lots of small details... looking forward to it.  When are you going to build something else???  I need something to critique......lol

Well, this morning I got some fiddly stuff done to the aft of the Hurricane Roof House, built the ladder and handrail, attached and painted them.  I am now I think Officially finished with the Hurricane House, Tiller & Wheel.   I'm starting to figure out that some of "white" looking spots in the painting, is actually reflexions from the powerful flash on the camera.  If it was't so cold I'd go outside and take a few photos to compare.
