Hi Buck, welcome aboard. Glad you enjoyed the "toys". Keep me posted on the whaleboat I only have 7 of them to build. I intend to build most of them as close to real as possible....at least the ones that are visible. I'll follow your build also. Thanks for your interest.

Got a little more progress yesterday actually started planking the Wales, and worked on planking the stern. So far, no complaints, working with wook is fun. So here's a few pictures for you know who, and maybe it'll spur Augie to show us some progress....

Might be good if you were catching EELs in the canals of Amsterdam, but could be tough otherwise....not real sure I would want to eat what you could catch off of a tug in most ports....might glow in the dark!

John,

The EEL that you catch in the canals in Amsterdam, you can hang them on the wall and don't need a thermometer anymore…….

Hi Sjors, yes, I have seen some of those eels, and that was why I included that scene....especially for you and your enjoyment...I have been to Amsterdam a number of times and I recall the "creepy" eels that live in the canals...thanks for the anectdote...

Sjjors, I assumed you had been there since you live in The Netherlands, I have enjoyed my trips there, and miss the cheese markets in Edam and Gouda.  I've been to the Floriade twice.  Perhaps some day I might be able to return and revisit those areas.

I have to make something clear I think….

We are eating EEL but not from the canals of Amsterdam !

The EEL we are eating are coming for the IJsselmeer.

And the best you can by are in Volendam or Harderwijk.

I live there close by so I know it very well.

And Augie?

We have roasted potatoes tonight  :D

You can call it patat or gebakken aardappelen…...

And now back to the build of John.

A little progress yesterday and today.  Managed to plank section "A" from the plans which is about 10 planks down from the Wales going toward the keel.  Here's a few pictures to show where we are.  Still needs some cleanup and sanding, but overall I'm pleased with the results.  Some of the planks are quite thin and appear to be translucent, but when primed and painted they will be solid.

Hi John, looking good.  I recently got the Morgan kit, which will be my next build (alongside the Corel Unicorn).  I was pretty impressed with the kit contents and instructions, though will plan to scratch or otherwise replace some of the fittings and possibly replace some of the kit wood.  I also got a copy of the book from the Mystic Seaport book store, which has some interesting tidbits.

Sorry if I missed this, but are you planning on double planking the hull?  I read in the instructions that you can do so using thin strip wood.  I don't know that I'm confident enough in my planking abilities to do a single planked hull yet.

Glad that we are back on the build and not talking about eels
