... I still find the need for (a great deal of) wood filler, etc.    I would appreciate any suggestions (other than "get it right the first time...... I try) which wood fillers you use...Moab

Make sawdust out of the wood you use for planking, mix it generously with a pva-based wood glue that dries clear-ish (not yellow) - that would give you a custom made filler for your wood ;)

I use ZAR Latex Wood Patch. It comes in tubes and in three different colors. Price depends what color you get. It dries pretty quick and is easy to sand. Can paint over it and one can glue sheathing to the hull with no problem.

I use medium grade aluminium oxide paper which gives very fine sawdust from the wood I'm using. This I mix to a paste with sanding sealer, works well and there's no alteration of the wood colour. Very useful for filling minor gaps in hull planking,if you don't paint it's virtually invisible.

Tried a few wood fillers both modelling and trade (avoid), wood dust with PVA, even silicon as filler. Best by far is Elmers. Nothing stops you mixing it with wood dust or acrylic paint.
