just to say hello

Recommended Posts

Although I have not formally been on your site before, I just want to say hello from a retired Senior Chief Boatswain Mate, started serving when I was 18 retired when I was 62 so I've been at sea most of my life.

my main interest is building model ships, and although I been doing this for some time,my time is very limited to a couple of hours each day, O.K. now that the introductions are over with, I know there are more experienced modelers out there, so with that in mind I really need some help. I just purchased the model Flying Fish and to tell you the truth I believe that this time I bite off more than I can chew,so I need some help!  The model does not come with the intricate parts already cut out and ready to be installed, instead each piece has to be hand carved following the plans, which are very difficult to follow. Is there anybody out there who has built the Flying Fish, and can give me some advice and steer me in the right direction to help me complete this model.   Thank-you  B. Regan

Have you done a search on this site for the Flying Fish ? I did a quick search and there seems to be a few builders logs on this model.

Are you talking about the Corel Flying Fish (which is a terrible kit in my opinion), or the Model Shipways clipper? The latter is an advanced-level kit and should only be attempted if you have some prior experience. Most Model Shipways instructions assume that the builder has such prior experience, and MS kits do require more scratch-building of parts, using dimensions taken from plans, than is typical for other manufacturers.

Welcome to MSW.  Do follow Steve and Chris's advise.  Open a build log and you should do well.
