You're doing well, Jacek.   Like you, I'm holding off on finishing any fairing until just before planking.

I am following the instructions as laid out in the manual, i believe fairing is planned Just before the outer bulwark liners

80grit on the oscillating Tool for preliminary sanding, then sanding sticks and paper

Result so far in starbord bow (looks ready, batten lies with good contact)

That's about the amount of time it takes me to sand using my sanding blocks. Looking really nice indeed.

Huh, yea, well, i took a lot of coffee and cigarette breaks :P

Anyways, the dreaded time of Planking is upon me (which also means that i will have to finish the outer planking on the port side of the Lady Nelson...)

Remember, you can never have enough clamps. 😄

Or you start using Pins and a pusher :D

@glennard2523 planking is where i will definitely slow down, although the admiral demands progress and help has been promised (aaand i still should finish the orlop)

1st 2 planks no tapering, no soaking, just install (also, the Commodore sent one of his Marines to oversee construction)

I am a bit concerned about the bulkheads tho, i noticed some of them started splitting after i pushed the pins in, so will have to see how to continue

I do have to say, i think i did a good job when fairing, the planks just flow with the shape and pinning is only really neccessary to add the side-bend to them.

I broke 3 planks when trying to shape them around the stern, it seems that filler will be needed there at one point.

Now the tapering fun starts and edge-bending (also now i stop trying to fit full-length planks)

Are you planning to join the planks midships. I have been considering this option.

Havent decided yet, i think i will try once more with full-length and see how it works (if you look closely at @James H manual pics, you will notice his 4th plank is boken at the stern and he ignored it - Step 142)

I dont know if the 1st layer is worth the hassle, also i do have a lot of limewood strips 1x5mm and 1.5x5mm, so i can keep breaking them until they decide to sit right
