I am a new member starting my first build, the Chaperon sternwheeler kit. This is a joint project with my brother, who will build a replica steam engine to eventually power it. Although I have some concern that the kit is more for display than seaworthiness, I am building the hull and some of the superstructure. Clearly there will be many modifications to allow room for a functioning boiler and engine, so an already challenging project will be even more so.

My model building experience extends only to those beloved old Revell plastic kits I built in the 60s, so clearly I have lots of homework to do. I have the hull pretty much together but the planking is going to be quite a task, thanks to the intricate strake twisting and shaping. Suggestions are welcome, but I would particularly like to get a copy of Kurt Van Damm's cd. As a newbie I'm not sure how to contact him to order, which I think has to be done via PayPal. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but as a recent retiree I do have time (and hopefully the patience) to give it a go. At any rate I can see this forum will be a great source. I will try to post my progress once I figure how to start a build topic.
