Didn't like the bread and butter longboat that came with the kit so I decided to order a longboat from model expo.

Kit came in a plastic bag with no photo and a single sheet of printed instructions and the photos on the sheet 

were so dark that I could not figure out what they were trying to show.  Found some links on this site from other 

builders that helped clear things up.

Chainplates with deadeyes are done - made another jig with an alligator clip to hold them level while gluing them to the hull.

Chain did not come with the kit - bought some chain in Walmart and secured to the hull with pins.

Bow rail did not line up after gluing it together.  Used a piece of strip wood and alligator clips to get the proper spread.

Fore and aft deck rails are done getting ready to work on the bow rails and dreading it.

Bow rails are completed thanks to Kenneth Powell for the great photos in his build log. Made the grating out of 1/32x1/32nd strip wood.

Using my home made jig for attaching the rails to the bow makes up for my shaky hands.

Made a needle out of a piece of brass rod by hammering the end to flatten in and then drill a small hold to insert the anchor line.

Had some leftover rail posts from my Danmark Build - used them with some leftover brass rod to make the side rails.

Been a while since I posted made some progress but lots of other things happening as usual.  Used drill press and dremel to shape the yards.

Found this great pic of deadeye rigging and added step numbers in red.

White card stock placed behind the shrouds makes tying the clove hitches for the ratlines easier to see.

Hope to get going on the remaining ratlines soon.

Making slow progress working on the rigging when time permits, Ratlines are finally done & don't want to see another clove hitch for a while.

Had some railing posts and brass left over from the Danmark and used them on the mast platforms.  Netting was from a flower arrangement donated

by the first mate.

Footropes are completed and yardarms are attached - made a jig to hang the yardarms from with alligator clips this works to help level them and

keeps them in position while the glue dries.

Tying rigging blocks is always a challenge especially tying a block with a Beckett

Came up with an easy way to rig the deadeyes that were close to the hull making it impossible to get a needle threader between the deadeye and the hull.

Just tie a 3 or 4 inch loop with a knot at the end then use the needle threader to pull the loop outward, then use the loop to pull in the line that has to go through.

A block of wood with an alligator clip holds a small square of wax paper making a handy glue pot, just drill a small indentation in the wood.
