Hey y'all, my name is Jay and I'm from Louisiana. I few years ago I got into making plastic model kits and I've been hooked since. I am a college student with a lot of free time, and instead going to parties I have decided to turn my dorm room into a scale ship yard. (We are overworked and understaffed here) Jokes aside I'm taking up my biggest project yet which is to build a 1:125 scale fletcher class destroyer from scratch, more specifically DD661 USS KIDD. This ship is very important to me as I have had the privilege of working on her for a few years as a tour guide. She will be configured in her 1945 condition as she was after repairs from a Kamikaze attack. Currently the hull is nearing completion, and hopefully ill be working on the superstructure within a month. I'm learning how to scratch build as I go, and I'm hoping to get some ideas and ask questions on this forum. Thanks for having me!

P.S Ill be making a build log soon if anybody is interested in the progress.

Hello, Jay!

If you haven't seen it already, you can click here to see Bob Steinbrunn's award-winning USS Kidd, built from the 1/192 scale solid-hull kit from BlueJacket Shipcrafters, with a LOT of modification. I had the pleasure of seeing this model first-hand at a show many years ago, and it is a real marvel. Bob's build was described in the Jan/Feb 2001 issue of Ships in Scale magazine (now out of print) and in the Sept 2001 issue of FineScale Modeler. If you hunt around, you may be able to find copies somewhere.
