The build continues with assembling few parts, including keel...

Also, I have cut the angle on the keel with a knife, file and sanding so will see end results..

Keel parts were glued together but was noted some curving on the keel so had to reassemble and glue them again with mora usage of wise and heavy objects..

Both parts done...

Work on a bow continues. Few peaces cut and sanded not completely but enough to test assembly and some of the to be glued together...

Now I need to find a way to transfer all rabbet lines on the other side of the part, most likely will use transparent paper and mirror image if original part...

Happy modelling...

Third time - luck.... hopefully learned something from my mistakes...

First one - broke the part above its potential repair..

Rochefort-00320.thumb.jpg.3bebbfc4b1cb649e4d1172e46a4cdae3.jpg

Second one - too hard push with a chisel caused rabbet line to go sideways.. above potential repair...

Rochefort-00321.thumb.jpg.fc24afbb3ac54ce85134a4090fbe2908.jpg

So now it has to be a good one, since I don't have more lumber available...

After few attempts, I managed to get one done; I will leave it as-is and adjust if needed more in the further steps... it took me really much of effort to get it done, understand the curvature and how it supposed to look, what tools to use for carving, etc... Anyhow moving forward...

Few attempts discarded after different failures...

Rochefort-00327.thumb.jpg.da4ada7bcc55a9145ece97299bc71e67.jpg

All work was done using chisels and scrappers..

This is it, just need to glue the last piece, already sanded and ready..

Happy modelling... I think I might update this to "Happy modelling - patiently"

A bit afterwards cleanup is needed to remove excess glue....

I do have one question, can anyone point me to some other build thread that do have a full picture of a wing-transom (#1) visible; I have some challenges visualizing the end result... really appreciated..

If it helps this is my Le Rochefort build - I too am very much learning on the job but I have received much help on this forum to get me to this point.  Also Gerard Delacroix is a member of this forum and always answers my questions regarding this lovely ship when I get stuck.  Drop him a message I'm sure he will be more than happy to help.

I can only agree with Mark, G. Delacroix is always very helpful, and when I have questions I always turn to him, although in the French forum. I can only recommend it, there you will find around 15 Le Rochefort and a chapter with general questions specifically for Le Rochefort. Among others, Adrian @a.sorolla is always there to help and advise.

I was watching Olympics and those top players do have few attempts to come to the best result..... so I decided to redo my Le Rochefort keel since I noticed few small mistakes that might bite me towards the end of this very nice build....
Here we go, a new set of copied plans, transferred and parts cut... also, you might notice a speeding up attempt in my cut parts... well.... if we can simulate planking on the deck, lets see how this would work.....

Keel building process continues... lots of repetitions (my mistakes) and trying to use the most of available woods takes plenty of build time... but I am getting there... This is a final version, no more "build it again", no more wood available at this moment so hopefully all will be done fine.

A little bit of a cleanup and sanding is still needed..

Continue with other keel parts, like sternson knee, which I have sanded on disk sander to get correct shape. I had one over-sanded result so ended up redoing it using some old wood parts..

The rabbet line is also taken care of, using a small chisel and lots of scraping, bellow first line with a V chisel.

Copy of the plan with draw lines on the opposite site using a light table to see thru... I don't have a printing option to print mirror image of a plan part so had to mark lines using old fashioned method, light table...

Still work in progress, not done with rabbet lines, which i find the most difficult to trace, at least for me.

Happy modelling..

I built my axial parts twice on my build to get them right. It’s so important to get the spine of this lovely ship correct as every thing else follows. I admire your efforts to get this section correct well done mate 👍

To break routine a bit, started to work on frames...

Rochefort-00401.thumb.jpg.a27ce9d80ee37ee7e8c183c8a9bef00e.jpg

Rochefort-00400.thumb.jpg.75eb4c39cf58f31fc65781287fc7c19d.jpg

Just testing, no glue and no final sanding completed..

Rochefort-00402.thumb.jpg.929d0c5e822cfa3aa91fab5f35e3dd65.jpg

Rochefort-00403.thumb.jpg.fe848b834e8883d8cf346a9bd24608ed.jpg

So far goes well, the only challenge is that my wood planks were 6mm thick and frames are all 5mm so need to send down each frame individually...

Will be an expert in sanding at the end.

Happy modelling..
