HM Cutter Sherbourne by ECK - Vanguard Models - 1:64

Recommended Posts

Having just finished HMS Flirt, I saw that Chris had 2 new models, HM cutter Cherbourne and gun brig Adder. I bought both and flipped a coin to see which to build first. Cherbourne won. So here is the unwrapping

Planking not taking long as only about 12 rows. I taper the bow sections and also chamfer the edges so sit better with the previous row. To pin the planks I drill a pilot hole at the marked ribs as I find the plank often splits if I just push them in.IMG_8323.thumb.jpeg.5f59fcfa9b4efcf66eb3e742b0ea500f.jpegIMG_8324.thumb.jpg.aed7da66a71b538645424651085f95e1.jpgIMG_8320.thumb.jpeg.3f016c61e573edfc9e728a99ef6a065f.jpeg

I added a stealer (arrow) in the bow as the planks were not sitting smoothly. Hard to actually spot it especially once I sand it.

Inner bulwarks in. I spray painted them prior inserting them. For the spirketting, I glued the stern one first using pins to keep the eyeholes in line. The forward piece is set so that o keep the eyeholes in line you just need to trim the bow end by 2-3 mm.IMG_8387.thumb.jpeg.a7c1290bee4a274c5e7be28d93a51740.jpegIMG_8386.thumb.jpeg.4e9f020105fa0c2020644384cd944d5e.jpegIMG_8388.thumb.jpg.d9d0580e3c0e8e3050c75bcd78115d9f.jpgIMG_8385.thumb.jpg.01fce9fb0ef3b829cd3828fa17490691.jpg

Yards secured. Instructions suggesting rigging the spanker first before the shrouds as no shrouds in the way. There is an error on rigging sheet 10 where the thimbles for the t'gallant lifts are placed where the blocks for the topsail lifts should be and no mention as to  what I suspect 3mm blocks should be placed for the topsail lifts. The pictures in the instruction manual show the correct configuration.IMG_8445.thumb.jpeg.7f4bb2914e37ee6d13a0c3d59c8b3aea.jpegIMG_8446.thumb.jpeg.e7101b7ccf4937fede57c7feaf7611f8.jpegIMG_8447.thumb.jpeg.454fa15dc8dd880152c6622c4d7534ec.jpeg
