Started the R/N Fiume recently and decided to start a build log here.   Occasionally I stream my building over on twitch at: https://www.twitch.tv/bartbandy

Splurged and got myself a PE bender as well .  Kit comes with PE and all the railings, only extras I bought was some brass barrels and will use EZ line for the rigging, otherwise, stock kit.

Decided to try doing the hard mount thing instead of the kit cradle.   The "candle sticks" are just temporary for the build, will use nice brass or something when I mount to the base.

Lets get the red and white stripes out of the way first.

That worked out ok.

Discovered my hands and eyes won't allow me to paint individual planks so picked up one of these Easy cutters to make tape strips with.  I love it!

Masking various planks and did 3 different shades of brown.

Gloss clear coat, then Naval Deck wash.   Also painted the rest of the deck in a dark'ish grey.

That works.

Making masking templates.   Increased the photo size to the same as the ship, cut tape to match.  (wish I had stock in Tamiya tape for this project)

That worked as well.

German and US shades of green mixed to put on an Italian ship - love it!

Almost zero touchup required - woot!

Letting it cure a day or two before sealing it up with a gloss finish (there will be oil pants to tone it down yet).    But happy up to this point.

Very cool, great start on this!  I didn't realize Trumpeter made a kit for this ship.  I love the look of the Italian WW2 ships.

The wooden deck painting is superb. The result justifies the work to achieve it.

Thanks, I was skeptical at first when I see so many people buying wooden decks but now after having done it, I find myself looking for a kit with an even bigger deck haha.   I really enjoyed the process and it is rewarding.

Sorry for no updates on this project of late.   I have to admit that come summer the model room takes a back seat to enjoying the great outdoors.    Did manage to get a bit of a start on the PE and will be working on this around working on my Norwegian Pram project.

Managed to get a bit me PE and dry fitting done, having to think all this through for the painting of the superstructure before I glue it all together.   Been so busy with the wood builds that this one got put on the back burner but think I am going to find the time and get this one sorted.
