a few weeks ago i was talking to a friend about modeling in general and he indicated that he had some wooden ship kits that he would never build. he was given them by a family friend who had got them off a deceased family member. he asked if i wanted them and the associated books. needless to say i said yes.

yesterday he gave me a call to say that he would pop around later in the day with the model kits and books.

what i got was.

1. Artesania Latina Cutty Sark in progress. hull built and 1st layer of planking done.

2. Amati Oseberg new untouched.

3. Amati Hannah Ship in a bottle new untouched.

4. Blue jacket Blue Gray half hull new untouched.

5. Blue jacket schooner America new untouched.

6. Blue Jacket Swampscott Dory new untouched.

7. Blue Jacket Grand Banks Dory new untouched.

8. Blue Jacket Lincolnville Wherry new untouched.

9. North eastern Black Hawk Half hull new untouched.

10. SH04 Hannah new untouched.

11. 50 books about model ship building

12. a box of tools/paints/parts  etc

needless to say i am pretty happy. gives me a lot to do between now and when i kick the bucket.

given i am currently building De Agostini HMS Victory, Billings Dannebrog, Artesania Latina Endeavour longboat and now have an underway Cutty Sark. i need to make the effort to get these finished.

Nice score Erik!

I'm familiar with just about all of those kits, except for the BlueJacket Blue Gray half-hull.

The Black Hawk half hull, If it's the kit I'm thinking of, is basically a framed half-hull that you can pretty much display on the wall as-is. It's really rare, and I've only ever seen one of these before.

Anyway, it looks like your stockpile is now well seeded. Good luck with all those builds!

Eric, you certainly have done a good catch!
I took the liberty of a rough calculation of the total cost for the kits, which is USD 1177 to 1452, based whether if America is the 1/8 scale (lower price) or the 1/4 scale (higher price).
I couldn't find any price information for the SH04 Hannah nor the North Eastern Black Hawk half hull. The 50 books have a great value as well.

I have to admit I have been in the same seat as well, handed down three RC yachts worth more than 5000 dollars plus several wood kits.

I've resolved NOT to accumulate any more in stash (unless gifted), having bought an A.L. Bluenose 2 not long ago (there's a story associated with that).  Four older inherited kits (2 were incomplete and I had no interest in building the others) have already been 'parted out' to my materials stock of planking and fittings.  Two plastic kits went to kids last Christmas, and there are 2 plastic kits that will be going to teenagers this Christmas - the scale is too small and I'm favoring wood over plastic.

This should leave 1 present restoration, 2 ships in progress and a stash of 5 ... representing, what, about 10 - 12 years of work ahead?  I'm not making firm plans beyond that, but we'll see how things go.

Completed builds:  Khufu Solar Barge - 1:72 Woody Joe

Current project(s): Gorch Fock restoration 1:100, Billing Wasa (bust) - 1:100 Billings, Great Harry (bust) 1:88 ex. Sergal 1:65

I also did a price up and i got to approx $2000 NZd so roughly the same as yourself. the books i didnt bother with although there are two sets of the plank on frame books (vol 1 and 2) these are a 1962 release and a 1998 release. the 1962 recently went for $150 NZd for both online there are also 4 years of the Shipwright years 2010, 2011,2012 and 2013 and i see them on amazon for about $25 each. so i would expect the books to be in the region of $1000. yes pretty pleased.

i had the box open last night and there is a bit to do to get it done. but essentially you have to break all the frames off. trim them up and glue them back on. pic of box. wow i just had a brain melt when i saw that Kit number 001. but its just kit 001 of 4 kits in the series.

Eric, I just found your Black Hawk kit, it has a reasonable price.
A half hull kit where the frames are done! I like it, it should be a fairly quick build.

Check this one out.

I just found your Black Hawk kit,

That's a wonderful looking half hull model. I didn't know it even existed.

I seem to have struck another group of ship kits at far below new price.

Estate sale again. Four billings boat kits.

Danmark

Cutty park

Bounty

Sea King.

The sea king has been started and parts of the other three have been mixed up.

But again a ridiculous price. Roughly a third the new price of one for all four.

These are quite a bit newer than the first group I got. I suppose I should really stop getting any more kits fir a while given the number I now have. Or will have once these arrive. Up to about 17 kits now
